Yeah, I'm not sure what show PJ's been watching for 6 years that stuff like this is considered that out of the ordinary.

I liked this episode, actually. The numbers were pretty stupid though and served no purpose besides distraction. That quote from the writer is hilarious - I noticed it at 49, because they made it so ****ing bright everywhere that they were impossible to miss.

was just on a cruise of over new years and they had an exclusive CBS channel that aired this show 25 times per day.

That countdown thing was so annoying. I couldn't pay attention, I just found myself looking for the numbers.

For a show about a guy meeting his wife, has Ted gone on a date at all this season?

Unless they are gonna take a leaf out of Lost's book and mix up the timelines it seems pointless given we know he meets the mother at Punchy's wedding.

Oh great, this episode Ted started dating Shannon. He will break up with her soon. That was a great development in the story.

Another meh episode. I expected it to be meh, and it delivered. Also shows just how bad the "actor" who plays Ted is.

I turned it off halfway through, a first for me. Didn't see any way it was going to get better with the plotlines they had going on. I'll try again next week but pretty sure this is my last season.

I didn't mind the last words plot, hammy and predictable as it was (though I thought Barney was going to bring Marshall to earth at some point by saying 'at least you knew your father'), and I actually enjoyed Robyn's purse of vice. The groin injury/lily and step mom bits sucked but they weren't the worst part of the ep

The worst part of the ep and indeed one of the dumbest things they've ever done except for where's the poop was the bully reverend. WHAT THE **** WAS THAT? Not only was it bad, but there was no payoff whatsoever.

I have to think the end of the plot ended up on the cutting room floor or something (which is where the whole thing should have gone). I especially get this impression because there is a very very weird edit to close the rev's first appearance (although this might have been a bad cut of a commercial break on the torrent)

what a soul crushing episode.

nothing really funny in this episode but I really enjoyed it. Probably my favorite drama episode in the whole series. Totally could see the ending from a mile away, but it still worked.

And whomever said this show was a straight comedy, go watch this episode, then find something even close in Seinfeld

Wow this ep was bad and 95% pointless. The Barney storyline to end the ep was good, but I didn't laugh more than once the whole episode. They could have made this episode 5 minutes long just showing Marshall+family depressed over the loss and cut to the final scene w/ Barney. Everything else sucked

you realize a show doesn't have to be funny to be effective right?

this was a drama based episode

Halfway in this was on target to beat the Marshall's assistant who tries to get fired episode from a few months back for worst HIMYM episode ever. It did get better in the second half (despite the storylines still being awful), so didn't really come close to that, but still mostly very bad.

Nah, even as a dramatic ep i dont think it was good. As a comedy ep it was of course pretty terribad.

this is true of some half hour shows (entourage comes to mind) but too many himym episodes nowadays work so much better (if at all) in the context of a full season. what i mean by this is, if i were watching season 6 on dvd and watched this episode in a block of four, i wouldn't be as disappointed with it.

as an aside, while it wasn't the best acted or a great episode, as a fan of the show who has seen every ep multiple times (even the ones that suck), i feel invested in the characters and thus got emotional watching/thinking about the last words i had with my parents the last time we spoke (and appreciate the accuracy in all the individual characters convos with their fathers).

but again, for 22 minutes of "comedy"...or dramedy or whatever...i was left unsatisfied. and that happens more and more as this show ages. and what's awkward/ridiculous to me about it is himym decided to focus more on characters/storylines than comedy compared to most sitcoms yet one of the biggest complaints from fans is that they haven't developed the main plot of the mother enough. a bind they forced themselves into, but that's not a good excuse iyam

yes, it's true that one ep being bad doesn't matter as much when you're watching six in a row (although watching six eos in a row of new HIMYM or Entourage would be torture), but it's made as a TV show, so I always lol when people say, basically, it works better as not-a-tv-show.

TV in general sucks now without 24, Lost, or Heroes. How I met your mother, the big bang theory has to fill those voids, with a few laughs here and there. In general; action, adventure shows are gone. lol, The event is suppose to be the child of 24/Lost, seriously?

However will we cope. Oh, with White Collar, Terriers (yeah, i know, lol), Community and stuff like Mad Men and Breaking bad that i dont watch but are hugely critically popular so i assume pretty good. Oh and Treme and Boadwalk Empire, again which i dont watch but are hugely critically popular.

HIMYM had a good couple of years and then peaked in quality. It happens. It is not however a measure of how good all television is right now. The Event was pretty blah, Flashforward sucked bad, who ****ing cares. There were plenty of misses between Sopranos and Lost. Welcome to 2011 when they get another dartboard to pelt at hoping to hit that next HUGE show. In the meantime there is a lot of quality out there.

Oh and Heroes peaked like season one. No idea how that even ended i bailed on it (like i wish i had Prison Break which also peaked season 1, though most of 2 was solid).
