and again, probably not what they're going for here, but it'd be neat if these rogue prince games he's playing were at least in part an act by daemon, doing counterintel to suss out who's working against his family. doing his part to protect his brother from himself. it would totally fit with how he played things in ep2.

Viserys didn't have a good episode: he alienated his brother and his daughter, drove a wedge between his daughter and her best friend, and drove his most powerful ally to his treasonous brother.

Prevailing theory is that the fandom knows the story better than he does and predicted every twist and turn and now he's written himself in a corner. Either do what everyone predicted or come up with some new off the wall ****.

Ok that second episode was fantastic, far better than the first.

After two episodes I'm going to give the House of the Dragon a grade of B. It probably could have earned a grade of B+ but it was brought down in small part because of the opening sequence and theme music.

The opening sequence gets a grade of F-. It has a river of blood flowing around a landscape. To make the red blood color pop out, the rest of the landscape is mostly gray and therefore difficult to see. Also the opening sequence and river of blood (bloodlines) is moving so fast that even when it intersects with sigils/symbols it is to difficult to see what it going on. The Targaryen bloodline is mostly intermarriage, but the sequence is moving so fast you can't see the sigils/symbols long enough to tell who is who. Prince Daemon, in episode one, gave Princess Rhaenyra a Valyrian steel necklace with a pendant. That pendant is the only sigil/symbol that is easy to read on the opening sequence. The opening theme is a piss poor design and speed. Furthermore, the House of the Dragon theme music is the same as Game of Thrones. This is ****ing lazy. I don't care if you call HotD a prequel or spin-off of GoT, but they went so far as to give HotD it's own theme graphics, therefore HotD should have had it's own music. The opening of HotD is a hot mess.



Game of Thrones might be the best opening of all time and if not the best of all time, it is definitely in the top ten of all time. House of the Dragon, if done right, could have been one of the best spin-off openings. Speaking of which, all hail the TV show Happy Days. Happy Days had at least three spin-offs and those spin-offs all had their own damn unique opening. Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, as well as, Joanie Loves Chachi had their own opening themes. I'm going to see if I can get in touch with George R. R. Martin and send him the best spinoff themes of all time which are probably Laverne & Shirley and The Jeffersons (spinoff of All in the Family). House of the Dragon has already been renewed for a season two. Don't be surprised if by season two the opening theme is fixed and you see Princess Rhaenyra and Princess Rhaenys dancing around while working in an ale house. Or you might see Princess Rhaenyra and whomever she marries singing about moving on up to Dragonstone or the penthouse in the Red Keep.

grade of B seems fair. It's not clear to me who the iconic characters will be in this yet. Obviously the 2 dragon riders have the inside track right now.

All the main characters have the charisma of a potato so wondering the same thing at this point.

Maybe old Rhaenyra will actually be likable.

new opening seems meh yeah, and using the same theme music is cowardly, but not a big deal really


thinking about the cut from the same cloth line at the end, perhaps another reason why daemon has a soft spot for rhaenyra is because of how similar they seem to be, as opposed to viserys. true dragons. prob not a coincidence that the king made that half-joke about being more afraid of her than balerion.

also, he prob wants to bang her (knowing this series, and targs), but time will tell on that...

The scene where viserys announced his wife seemed quite forced in order to be dramatic.

The lords of the small council get butthurt even if Princess Rhaenyra speaks and she is the cup bearer and daughter of the king. The scene in question here had King Viserys, Princess Rhaenyra, Otto Hightower and Alicent Hightower already in the small council room when the other lords enter. Those small council lords would have been walking in the room wondering why the hell Alicent was there. There would have been nothing unusual about Alicent being in the hallway outside the small council room as though she was waiting on Princess Rhaenyra. Alicent should have been in the hallway outside of the small council and then when Lord Corlys and Princess Rhaenyra stormed out of the room, they both give Alicent a Clint Eastwood type stare.

As staged, this scene requires too much of a willful suspension of disbelief to enjoy it.

Haha I didn't pick up on any of that while watching, but I'm already suspending most disbelief on shows like this.

I keep reminding myself that Hodor, Stannis, Jorah, Ramsey, Commander Mormont, the Hound, Jaqen, Tromund, Davos and all them mostly came later. So this show has time to cast better.

Also, everyone posting here referring to characters by there names instead of their characteristics is annoying. Just write weird mouth girl, black guy, black daughter, weird mouth girl friend, etc. imo.

The one with blonde hair is probably my favorite character.

I think the third episode was mediocre, but at least it moves the story along. I don't think House of the Dragon will be as bad as the last two season of Game of Thrones.

It looks like King Viserys lost two fingers to the infection from the previous episode, but nothing else was made of any type of continuing illness.

There are several dragon riders now.

The best scene was probably when Princess Rhaenyra returned from killing the boar. The "blooding" of her face, hair and clothes means she got up close and personal killing the boar. All the people in the hunting camp now know she is a fighter.

Not only that but eaelier in the episode she says the sound a boar makes when its getting killed is the one of a baby. When shes killing it she probably gets reminded of the baby taking her place as queen. The stabbing gets more violent.

I really liked Ep. 3 and think this series is far ahead of LOTR so far.

Even if the rest of the season is mediocre, it'd still blow the last 2 seasons of GOT out of the water.

the time jumping is stupid

S1-4 of Game of Thrones was top tier for me because;

a) Ambitious in scope from a storytelling and character perspective
b) A real sense of unpredictability and excitement.

Based on the first three episodes, HOTD is neither of these things.

got's characters were almost all flat, uncomplicated, 1d, etc
they hardly bothered to scratch the surface on any of them, to the extent that it mattered
the plot twists & turns are what carried the show, until they didn't
