Re: Homeland - Season 5 - Oct 4th

Dumbest thing I've seen in a while but I'm glad it resolved itself quickly, because it would have been far worse if it dragged over multiple episodes.

I was questioning their writing choices until she said "I'm CIA mother****er".

Gotta watch out for that jpeg ransomware.

Hmmm Matt Servitto/FBI. Someone should ask him if Tony Soprano is still alive.

If Carrie really wanted to end the hacker, she should have actually slept with him.

Agree with everyone that the hacker part was awful. I do however (like to) think that it'll serve the plot somewhere down the road this season. It kinda HAS to, right ?

Glad we're back on track with compelling Carrie storylines. And with Waco wrapping up this week, I'm glad Homeland is filling that void.

At least you can FF through the bipolar meltdown scenes and not miss anything new.

Homeland is ridiculous, but are there any better "drama" shows airing new eps on cable or broadcast right now? Nope.

The 4chan thing last week was absolutely terrible, and yet I was somehow more tilted by the focus on Carrie's bipolar issues this week. It's just so tired and cliche for her, and such a waste of time. It was fine for maybe the first season or two, but it's been an enormous waste of time ever since, and just takes away from anything remotely interesting.

That said, I actually think that this season has potential, and the overall setup is not bad, but it's also definitely not good. Everything so far could have been covered in one episode, it's a waste of time. With a quarter of the season gone already, it still feels like I'm waiting for things to actually get started.

Don't give me this Waco stuff, give me something compelling between O'Keefe and Madam President, maybe him actually having interesting dirt on her or something.

Don't waste Saul on O'Keefe, have him do something interesting with a foreign country that results in a moral or philosophical political dilemma. Maybe something with the Ukraine and Russia, or Turkey, or the Philippines, or any number of IRL situations. Homeland should have more compelling storylines than RL situations, not the other way around.

Don't give me an unemployed Carrie dealing with money and bipolar troubles, give me badass Carrie investigating something better than this McClendon thing. Give me stuff involving the CIA and the rest of the President's Administration, not just her CoS alone. The way they've done it, the world feels so small, it involves such a limited cast of characters.

Give me a Peter Quinn replacement who does badass things, and don't **** him up like you did Quinn.

Bring Dar Adal back or give me a replacement. Give me behind the scenes scheming and machinations.

But mainly, give me an interesting plot to follow instead of meandering around hinting at things that can happen but not going anywhere yet. Last season they took on Russian bot farms, which was somewhat interesting, as well as conspiracy stuff and an actual assassination attempt by a portion of the Deep State, and they turned Keane from Hillary into Trump, since the election didn't go as expected. But this season it's like they're afraid to make her full-on Trump, or to take on stories from real life, since real life events might move past them, but they need to make the President do some even more compelling bad things, and have Carrie fight against her and her Administration from the inside somehow, not this solo stuff looking into McClendon.

Okay, this ended up being more than I initially intended on writing, but it's just annoying to me bc Homeland is on the edge of possibly being decent again, but just not getting there. Hopefully it somehow gets there, and sooner rather than later.

At least they are trying to make it more entertaining now by doing their annual - oops there must be a mole/double agent - twist. Better than spending half of every episode on bipolar meltdowns.

Someone in the team was tipping off Simone about the bugs. Guessing it's Dante given he showed up with a sudden change of heart about helping Carrie right after she sent him the pic of Simone.

These are definitely ways to improve Homeland quality. I wouldn't quite say that it's good yet, but removing time spent on Frannie or bipolar issues helps immensely.

Also helps that the dumb Waco storyline is done. I don't need to see Saul as NSA negotiating with Alex Jones, lol.

The Carrie-led mission was better than her other stuff this season. Hope it goes in a more interesting direction, now that the bad guy lady isn't just working for Wellington but perhaps a foreign power or something.

It seems this show tries too hard. Too many irons in the fire for my liking.

I'd say they don't really try at all. They use current events as a loose guide for their story and then mix in some manic Carrie and Mandy Patinkin saying "godamnit!".

Couldn't sleep watched the season up to this point.... Mostly Lols. At least this Alex Jones **** is over.

Why did they need the girls purse in the house? Don't they have that house cammed up already?

Edit - oh right she is covering for Max

Still mildly entertaining imo, did think we were done with the bipolar stuff though.
