Yeah my family decided to abandon all of our worldly possessions, friends and loved ones fleeing the Soviet Union in the 80s for funsies.

I would argue that the western disinformation campaign re: the environment and our impending doom is comparable to the self-defeating cognitive dissonance of the USSR.

Oh sweet you have a nice anecdote. Want me to bring up all the ppl getting life in prison for a dimebag?

Or how about this ? You accumulated enough worldly possessions to give a **** that you lost them and then still had the resources and freedom to leave and start over elsewhere. Most Americans dont and never will.

Ya, I'm thinking who got life for a dimebag? I'm guessing it was in 1970s Nevada.

Happens all the time. You ever hear about 3 strikes?

Seriously your naivety in trusting USA is amazing. We did human experiments on blacks for like 50 years in Tuskegee.

Obv SU was horrible. All govs are and USA is no different.

A timeline of the water crisis in Flint, Michigan
April 2014: In an effort to save money, Flint begins drawing water from the Flint River for its 100,000 residents, instead of relying on water from Detroit. The move is considered temporary while the city waits to connect to a new regional water system. Residents immediately complain about the smell, taste and appearance of the water, and raise health concerns, reporting rashes, hair loss and other problems.

January 2015: Detroit offers to reconnect Flint to its water system, but Flint leaders insist the water is safe.

Sept. 24, 2015: A group of doctors urges Flint to stop using the Flint River for water after finding high levels of lead in the blood of children. State regulators insist the water is safe.

Sept. 29, 2015: Gov. Rick Snyder pledges to take action in response to the lead levels — the first acknowledgment by the state that lead is a problem.

Victor,
Oh god ignorance. We accumulated possessions by hiding them from the government. We were still caught and jailed. We would have earned our possessions lawfully but my religion was banned from attending all of the universities.

Then one day we were informed we were likely going to be murdered during the coming years and that the court system would do nothing to protect our possessions or lives because of our ethnicity. We snuck out as refugees through a third nation and had all of our worldy possessions stolen by the state.

Thank goodness we didn't have it as tough as Americans do in 2019 though.

Yes, but on the other hand we have random Americans saying it wasn't that bad so I don't know who to believe more.

Except we actually have a free press here.

While the powers that be might do their best to minimize or softplay the problem, there are too many independent media outlets not under government control to prevent some pieces of the truth from getting out.

Now, while I agree with you on the USA being "The Incarceration Nation" due to the stupid War on Drugs, that has nothing to do with the discussion ITT.

except nothing of the sort happened. like at all.

rather some ppl dropped by to say usa#1 look at wat lol communism made happen. I wont go further on wat therir ultimate intentions were but it is pretty obv.

but the point is that ppl tried to use this tragedy to make usa look good, despite usa having an absolutely abysmal track record on climate stuff.

and then some ppl dropped in to say until yall realize that usa is just as bad as ussr, things are gonna suck.

and heres the cliffs for the future. things will sucks.

like when someone says usa will be just as bad as soviet ussr, that is not a defense of ussr. thats a condemnation of usa. I understand that reading is hard but its not that hard.

Not for long. 'Fake news' will turn into someone having to 'do something' about it and then you can go ahead and kiss it goodbye.

Also, for those enjoying this thread who may no already know it, the OP -- who in his time gave us a lot of very well-written posts on TV and a host of other subjects -- passed away recently. So watch the next great show in his honor, please.

I can't disagree with this.

90 or so years ago, no less than HL Mencken said something to the effect that anyone who believes there is such a thing as "objective journalism" is delusional.

For me, I'll take the cacophony of the web blurting varying degrees of insane takes over a moderated and controlled distribution of information "for our benefit."
