This might be the best show I have ever seen from a production value perspective.

Yes, I remember motorbike chick going somewhat viral, by that day's standards. I never dug into it, there was so much fake stuff on the internet back then, I never looked into whether it was genuine, I just presumed it wasn't.

Also, goatse was still a thing then, so I was a little afraid to look at what she found, real *or* fake!

This guy has a Twitter thread on each episode so far, really good stuff. He keeps marveling at the small details, like the kitchen utensils, shoes, even the kids' school bags being the genuine 80s Soviet stuff.

When that soldier said, "I'll do it myself," I thought, "give that guy the Hero of the Soviet Union,"... and they DID!, according to these Twitter threads (almost unheard of in peacetime).

Narcos has been (is) a huge hit in Europe. Then again we're used to watch TV with subtitles, for obvious reasons. I would have loved to watch Chernobyl in Russian, but it makes sense that if Netflix is willing to produce show in various languages, HBO isn't.

Another tremendous episode, 4 for 4, this is the runaway favorite to be the best TV of 2019 and should be high on any best of decade lists.

Everything about that **** was acted, written, and shot so ****ing perfectly. Currently the highest rated TV show ever on IMDB, with this episode having a perfect 10/10.

Which just reminds me, the New York Times panned it:

I think I’d rather be a member of the pet killing squad than the graphite clearing team.

This ****ing show man. Every episode gets better.

The finale is a lock to be great. This is the best show I’ve seen in a long time.

Thought episode 3 was the best so far. Really love the development of the beurocrat guy working with the main scientist who started off ultra party guy and is slowly becoming jimmy mcnulty.

More than anything even regarding Chernobyl itself it reallreally illustrates how dangerous propaganda and lying governments are which is obviously pretty timely right now.

These people would rather the world literally end than "look weak". And things arent much different now.

Narcos was wildly successful and popular worldwide including in the US. Guess reading subtitles just too hard of a concept to grasp in the lolUK.

This show, as good as it is, would have been that much better with these scenes spoken in Russian instead of the old lady milking her cow being all "'ello mate, I lived 'ere all mi life not gonna bloody leave now"

LOL at that review.

I actually have a friend who said she wouldn't watch it because she was annoyed by the fictional Emily Watson character. I'm guessing she read that review and is missing out on a GOAT-level miniseries because of it. It is standard practice to create a composite character to represent numerous people, when telling a true historical story. I just don't get that specific criticism at all.

The other criticism seems to be that the Jared Harris character was not the whistle-blower he is made out to be in the series. I guess that could be a valid nitpick, but as a critic how do you watch a show this fantastic and focus on that?

Scene of the soldiers with 90 seconds to clear the roof was heart-stopping. It's amazing that this is a true story.

I could bring myself to clear the roof before I could be the dog killer. That puppy scene was brutal.

Yeah, the acting, the cinematography, everything about the animal control squad scenes were so beautifully and heartbreakingly filmed.

Reading over the Twitter thread of the ep from Slava, he points out how even though it's a Lebanese guy speaking English playing the Georgian soldier, the got everything about him SPOT on.

And the whole speaking English thing is such a dumbass take.

Then you're missing some great TV...Occupied and Four Seasons in Havana, for 2 examples.

That said, Chernobyl is the best thing on television, and it loses nothing by being in English.
