yeah, let's spend tens of millions of dollars on a min-series for the American audience, but put it in Russian - or better yet - use Russian actors that wouldn't mean jack-**** to anyone watching.

that's be real smart.

That's a pretty bizarre point to make. I'm not criticizing HBO's business decisions. I'm criticizing the show. I don't care what their reasons are for it or how valid it is. I can't enjoy the show when I hear a bunch of guys in British accents. Would it be that hard to just have no accents?

Shows are made for people to watch. The more the better. You don’t get that simple pint.

Well now you’ve spoiled any legitimacy your critique might have had.
If you are British, a “British accent” -is- no accent.
You expect Jared Harris to fake an American accent in order to play a Russian?

I usually don't even notice accents in shows but this one is different for some reason. I think I'm just used to the evil Russian bureaucrat trope fake accent. The guy with the high pitched raspy voice needed to have the cold fake Russian accent imo.

Jared Harris is awesome. Surprised I only remember him from the Terror. He needs to be in more things. Harris and Skarsgard have great chemistry so far.

I find it surprising/lucky/amazing that the disaster didn't have a much worse impact. I guess we will never know the true health consequences but it seems like ten's of millions of people must have come into contract with some sort of radioactive dust. I wonder if in the future, scientists will be able to determine by a persons DNA if their relatives were in the Chernobyl area.

I'm not British. No one forced them to use all British actors. Most HBO subscribers aren't British.

Accents are great. Show is great. Only thing that can rival the chernobyl disaster is Wooderson's opinion.

It's not even an HBO solo production, they are the American distributor but it's a joint project between them and Sky.

I am curious about that too. Given how meticulous the show is I’m sure it’s accurate but I wonder what they were for.

When watching Rome, were you frustrated they weren't speaking Latin?

Make all the face-blind jokes you want (they seem to follow me), but did anyone else see this guy:

And think of this guy?

The show is great. I love how it portrays the Soviet authorities as so indifferent towards human life. Only when they think the incident will threaten their perception of power do they do anything.

Well, now I know the worst possible way to die that isn't purposeful torture. Jesus Christ. They were melting.

Loved that Lech Walesa coal miner dude.

Also enjoyed the patients smoking in the hospital. Why not?

Moments that required me to hit the pause button, just to absorb what I'd been told:

--"All the liquid nitrogen in the Soviet Union." Glad I paused there, because it took a few moments to realize that liquid nitrogen is that super-cold stuff, lol.

--50° in the tunnel.....oh, that's Celsius! Wait, what is that?....halfway between freezing and boiling, so...122??? And they're just starting! It's gonna get hotter than that as they get close!!! OMFG.

It's been a while since I was hooked on a weekly show, I'm used to having to wait until the next day before I could see it online. It was a nice surprise when I took a shot tonight, and HBO had this one all fired up and ready for me.
