I have yet to see an explanation as to how, exactly, this show mirrors reality.

I don't believe anyone has said that.

True. Nobody has actually said anything.

Handmaid's Tale obviously takes place in a fictional utopia sometime in the very distant future when America has been made truly great beyond anyone's imagination by a group of patriots.

Real life is very different. You can't compare the two.

If you want to define "not that far-fetched" in %, I'll give you some long odds against wemenz being banned from reading in the next 7 years. Or mandated rape policies, public gay executions, etc.

Blessed be the fruit

do yourself a favor and pretend the final episode of season 1 was the series finale.

I disagree. Season 1 is obviously better than season 2, but season 2 was still good. Until the last episode anyway. Definitly worth watching, and I for one am looking forward to watch the third season.

The first season was trully amazing whereas the second one was merely "good". This isn't like The Handmaid's Tale went full True Detective or something.

2nd season was good for the most part but holy hell at that ending. Truly awful and really beings it down.

Finished the first season.

I was getting tired of all the awfulness, but the last episode was great. Loved seeing Mariah and June’s hubby find each other. I may have shed a tear.

Saw both seasons in about a week. Good stuff. Season 1 superb, season 2 took a bit of a slow start but definitely picked up as well. Might have helped that I didn't have to wait a full week between each episode so it didn't feel like a drag. Final ending obv terrible as mentioned before.

Opening of season 2 was extremely powerful. I started getting a bit desensitized due to all the binging but that stuff woke me right back up.

You forgot the lopping off of various body parts, quotes of bible scripture and Aunt Lydia's face-plant from the 2nd floor staircase.

Does anyone see the Janine character as almost comic relief meme? I mean she tried suicide, was sentenced to stoning and a death camp, plus numerous beatings, but the way she keeps coming back ("Hi guys, what's up") adds some dark humor to me. Anyone else gets that vibe?

Season 3 has been atrociously bad so far. I'd say the show went off the rails when they ran out of source material and it seems pretty clear that the writers have no idea what they're doing.

Somehow I still keep watching though even though every episode contains of at least 30 minutes of close shots of June's face slooooowly reacting to something and pondering what to say or do.

I don't get the hate, I'm enjoying this season. I like where they're taking it and the acting is sublime. Shrug.
