s2 is good. its just not a top show.

I still think it's a top show. This thread is way too critical.

It did start out a little slow, but the last 3 shows have been amazing.

Meh, last week was frustrating. Nick is driving June, alone, out in the country somewhere with hours to go before anyone knows he's gone, and he's just like "yeah, I'm gonna do exactly what Waterford says" when they could be in Canada before anyone realizes they're missing?

Then they get there, Hannah is there, with only one other armed guy who would never expect Nick to turn on him - and they're like "welp, time to go, guess you can take Hannah away forever now"? Seriously?

Yeah, way too many logical flaws and plotholes this season. The writing fell off a cliff after s1, but it's still a fascinating show. I think it's fair to say it went from an A/A- type show to a solid B+ type show this season, but it's still one of the better ones out there. Also, to be fair to the writers, the story was/is almost impossible to continue from where season 1 (and I assume the book?) left off.

Yeah, S1 ends where the book ended.

...which kind of seems like a plot hole in S2E1 - S1 ended with Nick saying "trust me, go with these guys, it's okay", which turns out to be "trust me it's just Lydia taking you and all the handmaids away to get tortured"? What??

I think episode 11 needed the content warning that episode 10 got.

Holy hell at the latest ep. The juxtaposition between the pool and the end scene....

This show is unreal.

The pool scene was very hard to watch...

Love the show although this season has been a bit inferior. My biggest issue with this season is the relationship between Serena and June. I understand how Serena can be both a ***** and somewhat kind at times to June, but I don't get how June can sometimes feel genuinely thankful to Serena whe she doesn't act like a complete *****. That can only mean that June has been broken into submission, but she doesn't act like that most of the time, so...

I don't know, feels a bit weird to me.

Anyway, great episode (perhaps the best one this season?), and great show.

Wait what, I thought the season ended after episode 10 (the one that ended with June alone in the house after meeting her daughter)? I guess not and now I've halfway self-spoiled the next couple of eps, wp me

i'm not a fan of how mr and mrs waterford can be so bipolar in their relationship with offred. makes no sense. i get that ppl arent always 100% good or evil but they are pushing it.

Same. Partially due to my bf saying it was but the episode also had the feel of a finale. Thankfully after reading Rich's post I realised something was wrong and stopped reading here and went and checked how many episodes were out and caught up

One of the worst plot twists I've ever seen. Terrible episode, everything was out of character, horrible writing, etc.

Are you referring to the finale? I guess it's good that my expectations are adjusted appropriately.

After champstark's post I was expecting worse tbh, not that what we saw was all that great.

It's just...so contrived and dumb. The best plan has always been, especially if ****ing with the Waterfords was an option (what happens to Nick now? He should probably get executed?) - kill/incapacitate them, get in the car, you're in Canada before anyone knows something's wrong. The show has never given us a reason to think that shouldn't work, especially given that Nick managed to smuggle June well out of town for the Hannah rendezvous without anyone noticing.

So what in the **** is this hare-brained plan where you burn down half the neighborhood and not-very-sneakily run through 20 backyards in a giant red "hi I'm a handmaid on the lam" suit, for Bradley Whitford to show up in some questionable product placement (I had always kinda assumed Mercedes were the vehicle of choice in Gilead, creatively, for their Nazi associations - but hey, welcome aboard Tesla!) and whisk you and your buddy handmaid (who just killed someone, and sat in your home for hours without being arrested?) away?

What in the ****?

Then this car arrives, and June decides - **** it, I'm staying, because I'm a ****ing ninja commando and it's time to get Hannah back? That must be her plan, because I know she doesn't think she's going back to the Waterfords to be like "oops, sorry, I guess I stole your baby aka the only reason this nation and society exist" and not get executed. Hell, she could have done great work for Hannah in Canada; if the letters Nick smuggled out were such a big deal, imagine what a real, live handmaid escaping into Canada to tell her story - and not just any story, but the story of being Commander Waterford's handmaid - would do to Gilead on an international scale. She would do tremendous work there to stop this utter monstrosity against the human race. But nope, can't leave Hannah, guess I'm going back into hell world (to be immediately executed).

Whatever this show is planning in order to write themselves out of this one next season - nope, don't ****ing care, it's gonna be baaaaaaaad.

The A.V. Club reacts to an infuriating Handmaid’s Tale finale

One of the handmaids pulled off a suicide bombing, which had surprisingly little effect.
I had already completely forgotten that happened

The Handmaid's Tale ends a frustrating season on a frustrating note

It seems now that perhaps the reason that the show has never matched those early outings in terms of power and quality is that it’s actually actively disinterested in being that kind of show.

All this time, I thought The Handmaid’s Tale wanted to be this:

But maybe it actually wanted to be this:

In for next season though LDO.

I was really liking this season overall, but goofyballer breaks down pretty well why that final twist was atrocious.

On top of that, June has TRIED to escape to Canada before. Not that long ago. So she's not only contradicting all logic, but contradicting herself too.

Sooooo stupid. Especially when an effective way to have the same result would be that June hands over the baby, and a guard/soldier/whatever grabs her as tries to get in the car. She (also would be stupid) somehow gets their gun, kills him, flips hoodie and now she’s June, the Hunter Handmaid Assassin!!
