I'm a bit nervous that they've exhausted the source material and are now on their own.

Oh, we're not in the Westworld thread? Sorry about that. Seriously though it's pretty sweet to have both shows returning.
I mentioned in the general tv discussion thread how I originally watched Westworld pilot, thought it was ok but didn't keep watching it. Rewatching it I was totally hooked and the great thing is I've got a couple of seasons to look forward to! I also have Homeland, The Americans and Vikings to still complete lol.

Apologies for the derail. Please blame Fabian for this faux pas.

protip: as soon as you feel like it's not as good anymore, stop watching. It goes downhill hard from that point.

First episode was great, second episode was pretty slow. Aunt Lydia is cold blooded.

Disagree, Bledel is just so good in the role. The best episode of the series is still the one where she has to watch her lover hung in front of her.

I like Moss and she’s fantastic in the role too but (as pointed out) the fact that she’s a Scientologist just makes it all so ironic to me.

2nd season just seems way too gratuitously cruel and shocking.

Yep. I’m tired of getting hit over the head with it.

I doubt they hired Marissa Tomei for just a 1 episode appearance so I doubt she will die after episode 2.

Saw the first two eps of s2, enjoyed them less than s1 but it's still very good. I'm honestly expecting the show to decline a fair bit from s1 tho, because the writers are facing a nearly impossible task. They ran out of source material already, and it's going to be extremely difficult to make the show compelling and progressing the story in some way without turning it ridiculous. I'm running really low on ideas of what the arcs for the next, say, two seasons could realistically be that wouldn't suck in one way or the other.

its season one they kind of dropped in morsels of savagery so you werent inundated with it. this season has just been an onslaught of sadism. like BeatPurdue said, they really are beating you over the head with it.

I am not sure that I can continue watching it. Certainly will need to be in the proper mood for it.

Obv grading on a curve but this season is really bad so far, like, shockingly so. It plays like half-baked fanfic.

So taking fertile mothers' children away and forcing the mothers to be handmaids is a thing that only happens... sometimes? Or something?

I wondered about that, too. Maybe she's no longer fertile? Maybe the kid isn't hers?

Way too many things in that episode that didn’t make sense, including most of June’s decisions.

How many seasons are they planning on doing? I see IMDB has 3 on it's page.

This show is exhausting to watch. I'm not sure I can handle all the depressing things on this show without something positive happening occasionally.

I was mostly joking as I think the writers simply messed up, hoping nobody would notice changing a central premise and theme of the novel.

I thought they took children away from the mothers who they believed sinned?

The writing is bad. This is just like GoT - they've gone beyond the original material and the difference is painfully obvious.

I kept thinking, "what a ****ing slog this is."

After that ending, there is at least a glimmer of hope for a big change in tone to salvage the rest of the season. Still doubtful, though.

Thoughts on the last two episodes?

My wife still loves the show but this season doesn’t have the intensity of the first. I think it’s watchable mostly because I want to see how it ends.
