The Handmaid's Tale (HULU) The Handmaid's Tale (HULU)

Recently finished it also because of this thread.
Pretty strange watching the first ep, totally no idea what the hell is going on.
But amazing show indeed, I always liked Moss in Mad Men but for this she should really get an emmy.

I don't think this is really accurate. Some significant scenes, including the concluding scene of season 1, are straight out of the book.

I'm shocked, in a good way, that Handmaid's Tale crushed the Emmys. I thought for sure the populist choices Stranger Things or Westworld would win all the awards. Good stuff, Emmys. Rewarding the best.

Read this years ago and enjoyed it. Guess I should start watching now.

Very cool that it swept the Emmys, that was unexpected but awesome.

Pretty cool, but not really unexpected? At least for the categories that I saw betting odds for (best drama, outstanding lead/supporting actress) it was the #1 pick for all of them.

Read a Emmy preview a couple of days ago that said the important stuff is going to Handmaid's Tale or This is Us and everything else to minorities or people/shows that hate (on) Trump. Pretty much exactly what happened.

I'm glad Moss won. Totally deserving.

Completely agree. Well deserved, especially after 6 nomination for Mad Men.

Also a perfectly placed F bomb at the awards - it was perfect.

Would have expected Stranger Things to get more, but Handmaid's Tale got the nod and great for them. Considering next year and probably the one after is gonna be all game of thrones again for the Emmy's, good for all the people at Hulu and Amazon.

my boss watches this show and told me what the premise is, so not surprised at all that it won

/hot take

It didn't win because of it's premise. It won because it's amazing television.

Ahh my bad, I'm not American and I was under the impression this was a niche show that no one's really watching. I know 0 people irl who've watched the show as far as I know and there's no buzz around it whatsoever. If someone had told me it was going to win a single Emmy I'd have been mildly surprised. I'm glad that's apparently not the case in the US

Depends on why u hated the Leftovers. There is no supernatural religious mystery in Handmaid's Tale, but it is set in a brutal, unforgiving, religious theocracy and the show doesn't hold back in showing what happens to people who try to fight the system.

It is not a "fun" or lighthearted show, but is amazingly well written and acted and feels relevant to today's political landscape.

Not necessarily, but if you end up hating both it'll mean you're pretty bad at watching TV !

Yep. 92 on Metacritic. Best drama, actress, supporting actress, writer, director, etc.

And 2p2 has an active The Walking Dead thread.

Same here, very excited that it's coming back this week!

Oh, we're not in the Westworld thread? Sorry about that. Seriously though it's pretty sweet to have both shows returning.
