I've watched the first three episodes and came to OOTV looking for the insightful perspective that only Twoplustwo can provide. Imagine my surprise that no thread yet exists for this show.
I'm finding this story to be pretty interesting so far, in kind of a Twilight Zone "could this really happen" sort of way. Fundamentalist religion gone wild and it's kind of scary.
I've watched the first 3 so far. I recognize that Offred being clueless about pretty much everything in the present and the flashbacks is sort of a necessary conceit to explain everything to the viewer, but it's starting to feel a bit unbecoming of a heroine.
I'm watching episode #5 and I just now caught on to the Handmaids' naming convention. Offred is of-fred. Commander Waterford's first name is Fred. I didn't catch on until we saw the character Ofglen, whose new name is Ofsteven.

I haven't watched this yet, but I see that it has been picked up for a second season already. I read the book when I first heard about this show coming out. Pretty good read. Has anyone heard if season 1 is going to cover the entire book with any later seasons being new material?

I don't know and I haven't read the book, but based on where the TV show is right now I have to assume S1 doesn't cover the whole thing. Season's almost over and things just seem to be ramping up.
