Just finished watching this series basically on the recommendations from this thread. It is really fantastic. Here are some random comments:

1. Donna is the sneakiest hot chick ever on TV. The first time she appears onscreen she is totally believable as just the wife of the one dude. By the time she walks into Symphonic Ventures in the series finale wearing that white flower skirt and red top she is the hottest woman on television.

2. I’ve never seen a show turn on a dime like that before. At the end of season 1 they basically figured out all the weak points and fixed them: Joe’s character isn’t a real person, Cameron is a terrible snot, Gordon is all over the place, and we need more Boz. Then after season two they decided they were getting warmer but still needed a better Joe and a better Cameron, more Boz, and more of Donna in tight clothes. By season 3 they hit their stride and season 4 was sublime.

3. At the end of season 1 I would describe HACF as a poor mans Mad Men with computers. By the end of the series it had become every bit as good as Mad Men.

4. Who has a worse kitchen, Walter and Skyler, Donna and Gordon, or Betty Draper? What’s the deal with all the terrible kitchen sets on AMC?

lol you're old enough to remember! Kitchens in the 70s were functional and small not these great places to hang out in like they are now.

I wasn’t referring to their small size, but rather the atrociously dark and oppressive mood. BB took place in modern times, so Skylar and Walt’s kitchen was definitely in the bottom half of Albuquerque kitchens aesthetically. The Drapers lived in the 60s and the fail was all Betty’s. Don’s apartment kitchen was dope. Gordon and Donnas kitchen in season 1 was gruesome. They got it fixed, but even the mutiny house had a better vibe than the Clark residence.

My point, dude, is that the AMC kitchens are weird and crappy and it’s a stylistic choice. I was hoping someone like you could explain why. It’s definitley not a coincidence.

yeah the atrociously dark and oppressive mood of the White's kitchen was a weird choice given the overall tone of the show. Bad!

this idea of donna being 'sneaky hot' sounds like a bill simmons hot take.

Guess we have to go see if the same production design team has been on all those shows lol.

All the kitchens seem to fit the era and locale of the shows to me. So, you got me.
