Halt and Catch Fire: Fourth and final season Halt and Catch Fire: Fourth and final season

Series won't go down in my top 5 or anything, but I really, really liked it and I'm glad I watched it. And I pretty much loved the finale (once you discount slightly for the fact that finales are (almost) always let-downs almost by definition). Good show!

Yeah I thought the last two episodes were OK. It was kind of off putting though because I don't think the writers hated Cameron as much as I did, or even at all. So the show was lacking a bit in self-awareness there. Contrast that with a show like Girls, which I think rather slyly treated the self-centered and narcissistic main characters of the show with a sort of gentle contempt. I didn't get that from HACF, and it was deserved by almost all the characters. Especially Cameron.

While s4 wasn't my favorite overall, I thought the last 3 (esp. 8/10) eps were very good. I thought Joe was the best character for a while, but imo it's clearly Donna.

Didn't enjoy how much time they spent on the kids, who were not really significant characters until S4. I agree that Donna was best character on the show by far.

Also a big thumbs up for using Peter Gabriel's 'Solsbury Hill'. Love that song and it really fit the mood as the curtain was coming down.

i went on a long vacation a few episodes in and never really got back on track with the show. finally watched it all in the past couple of weeks.

i just really, really like this show and i probably give it some passes at times because of my affinity for the cast and the subject matter. if it was in the hands of someone like weiner it could have been really incredible.

i think this season started strong and ended strong, but maybe overall wasn't quite as good as the last couple of seasons. obviously most of the emotional stuff was exceptionally well done, and if you didn't like episode 8 i don't like you.

one thing that particularly annoyed me about this season was that it looked terrible.

and +1 to great music in this series throughout. some of the most memorable moments have been stuff like velouria, so far away, solsbury hill.

I just got around to this too. The show had some flaws but pretty damn good. It's a shame what a ratings disaster it was as I don't think it bodes well for future projects of this ilk. But hey, probably more super hero stuff, **** YEAH BROS!!!

i’ve actually just spent most of today super depressed this is over. this wasn’t the best show ever, but when shows end that really emphasise characters and conversation (this, mad men, FNL), i get super bummed out about not being able to spend any more time in their world.

I had drifted away from this show midway thru season 3, time to finish it up I guess. It's a good show, characters seem like real people which is rare.

I'm with you. If I remember correctly, the show was unlikely to get renewed for all of seasons 2-4, so at least we got this much (and a proper sending off).

This show was pretty much the biggest miracle on television. It had no ratings for its entire run.

season 3 ep 7 which I just watched has to be the best ep of this entire series to me so far, really glad I started back up with this.

The last half of season 3 is phenomenal. I wish I could watch it again for the first time. Excellent television.

I'm halfway thru season 4 now, it's really strong. I especially liked ep. 3.

binged this over the last week...

it was quite good...great performances...I liked how the relationship ebbed and flowed and seemed realistic...not sure why you guys hated Cameron and Joe so much...all of the characters rang true.

It really resonated with me, because I've had companies and start-ups with very good friends, co-workers, and partners who I never see anymore and I miss them.

Anyone else notice in season 3 when Joe and Ray were building their project in Joe's high rise, and Joe had a gay lover who came over who looked really sick and he needed to tell Joe something...and then Ray saw Joe crying later...it was obvious that Joe had contracted AIDS...but then I guess they just decided to drop that whole thing...

I remember the call, but we didn't hear anything....

Just a small thing...

I also thought the girls who played the daughters in season 4 were both fantastic.

I didn't hate Cameron because the character didn't ring true. The character was definitely realistic. But she's a horrible, selfish, hypocritical, un-self aware person with no redeeming characteristics.

Hmmmm...I don’t shareyour view at all. I thought she was realistic, flawed, and damaged. But also loving and passionate. The show really got right how people striving for the same result can be blinded to their own faults and prejudices, and not see what others are trying to say or do.

Just started watching this show. (Grunching, obviously)

Half a dozen episodes in, really enjoying it !

One good thing: There is something insanely hot about Donna. One bad thing: Cameron being a supposed genius coder that.... can't type properly, tilts me hard.

the scenes early on where cameron puts on headphones and repeatedly bashes the keys from chest height are terrible. her typing probably gets less obnoxiously bad but never approaches realistic.

Worrying about how someone types is the "elbows too pointy" of this thread.

Maybe this is obvious to everyone else, but is it clear what Donna's idea is at the end? I got the impression that she was looking at all the people talking to each other in the diner and maybe her idea was a social media concept. Maybe I was reading too much into it.

it's deliberately ambiguous, there are tons of things it could be based on what she looks at (payments, music, maps, etc)
