I watched through all this when hungry for content to watch on my new 4k TV, and kinda wish I'd landed somewhere else. Billy Bob is awesome but so much of the writing/other characters was just cartoonish. I'm gonna pass on season 2 if there is one.

I thought it was pretty good. Not GOAT worthy but very entertaining. I was very into each episode so, for me, that's all I can hope for.

I was amused to see a cameo from Judge Kozinski in it: I worked for him many years ago and he has remained a friend.

Lol, is there anyone you don't know, HT?

Just watched the first two eps and on the third now. Noticed David E. Kelly's name in the credits, so it's no surprise why I like it a lot already. It's like a magnificent trainwreck unfolding before my eyes.

Just finished this. I thought it was alright. Billy Bob was great as was most of the cast (I just hate Molly Parker no matter what she is in) but everyone else was solid.

I just found the whole cover up to be too over the top and implausible.

Spoiler:
At the end Hurt says the truck was intended for Billy Bob which makes sense. I mean the easiest thing to do is just take out Billy Bob but of course then you don't have a show. But they were willing to do all sorts of other stupid **** so why not just try again to take him out?

I'm five episodes in, watched all five at once! But yeah, I'm with the rest of you guys: the villains are beyond cartoon.

My "subtle moments YOU only know" catches:

Spoiler:
--Molly Parker wears a skirt when she's sucking up to the boss, but otherwise is in pants.

--You know that last shot in the opening credits, when a tiny Billy Bob pops out of the water then suddenly looms larger than the ferris wheel on the Santa Monica pier? He's not the David in this story--HE is the Goliath! He's a legal titan, he's out-lawyering the **** out of everybody in the 5 eps I've seen so far.

--I think I spotted a foreshadow in an early ep, will let you know if it pays off later.

Man, I want to live in a motel in Santa Monica.

RON HOWARD NARRATOR VOICE: It did not.

Not yet, any way. Maybe next season?

It's probably nothing, but I'll post it in spoilers any way:
Spoiler:

Quote:
Early episode, Billy Bob puts on a suit for the first time, in his motel bathroom.
Hooker tells him he looks good. BB grabs the jacket from the hanger on the shower curtain rod. He pulls the jacket off the hanger and leaves. The camera stays on the hanger a little too long, dangling from the rod.

Is someone going to hang themself?

Penultimate ep, BB confronts hooker. She's crying, in a motel bathroom. While they scream at each other, there's another hanger prominently featured in the shot--it's hanging from a picture frame on the wall. It makes no sense, I've never seen anyone hang a hanger on a picture.

The last we saw of the hooker, she was sobbing in the parking lot as BB drove off. No real resolution for her character...

...YET!

Season 2 is out Friday.

I recently started looking at Amazon Prime Video, so I'm open to suggestions. I really liked Goliath.

It's definitely uneven, it's caricature-ish, it doesn't really back up its conclusion, it's cliche and somehow everyone still smokes. ... But I was into it. I like the hooker associate and hope she doesn't end her character arc in that closet, YTF. .... None of the characters were well-developed but they were all well played and fun.

I guess it's not great but I enjoyed the characters. And yes, I too would like to live in a Santa Monica motel next to Chez Jay.

Nina Arianda as Patty was great. Definitely got a little crush on that character.

Season 1 isn't great, by any means. The characters made it watchable for me, but if you're not into those characters maybe it doesn't work. It's not "good."

Finished the season....man, did that take a left turn. Episode 7 is so loopy and confusing and brilliant and perfect, it left me astounded. Really well done.

Better then season 1? I haven't started yet, but I'll be knocking it out over a couple days next week!

I just watched ep 1 of the second season. Really felt like giving up after it. It just felt flat more of the same to me.

Tho I 'll guess I'll stick with it, since I can trust Dom's taste.

Wow. Just finished it, and ... whoa.

What an incredibly disjointed and unsatisfying finish. Episode 7 is ****ing SUBLIME. But .... incredibly unsatisfying. Episode 8 isn't satisfying, but mostly episodes 6-7-8 never seem to come together. Episode 7 is just a work of art, but the rest of the story fizzled for me.

It's possible some things I didn't understand, plot-wise, made the last three episodes so disjointed. But #7 was special.

Spoiler:
I split the season into halves, with 1-5 and then 6-8 .... I didn't enjoy episode 6, since it seemed to me that Get Billy Out Of Cell Range was the plan all along. So #6 is some origin story and waiting, and then #7 is completely detached.

Episode 7 almost exists in a vacuum, and it's perfectly set up by 6 ... but the storyline stops there. All this **** happens. The last three episodes aren't written together well, imo. And the attempt to tie it all up in a quick episode 8 really left me disappointed.

All said though, S2 was a little less gritty than S1, but also had a little more finesse. Just kinda fell short on the end.

Maybe I didn't totally grasp the entire finish, though.

Still enjoying the characters. I like the show a lot.

Two random good lines ...

Spoiler:
S1 on the way to court towards the end, when Patty's enormous relative is along for the ride. She's tying his tie and tells him t be on his A gane. "Got it. Be less." .... lol'd

S2 in the office: "$50 million?" ... "You don't get to keep it all."

This Lou Phillips kid could be a diamond in the rough! I just watched ep 1, eh. Didn't exactly set my heart to racing, I'll keep going for now though.

S2 wasn't bad. I'd say I'd preferred season one, but I really don't even remember much of it. I'd have to watch it again.

S2 is a really big homage to North by Northwest, which will always be one of my favorite movies. Holy cow does it get dark.

Every time I see Billy Bob on screen it takes me a while to get over his hair, but eventually I do. There's certain actors I just can't get past it tho. Pretty much any Stallone stuff after a certain point, so I don't even bother.

Finished up season2 last night and liked it a lot. I don't really remember a whole lot about season one other than I thought it was okay. I think I liked this season a lot more and was totally engaged. Agree that episode 7 was absolutely brilliant if not a little confusing. Lots of crazy over the top stuff but a very enjoyable few hours of scripted TV.
