some of those high fives seem so forced too

like when the hoffman kids are panning for gold they like do the most lackluster high five ever after they find it.

I agree 100000%.

To me striking it rich means making $1 million after all is said and done. And that means $1 million for each guy after costs and ****. Not 200 ounces when you gotta split it among 9 guys. LOL. WTF?

This is what I think happened. The main crew failed so badly that Discovery was like "We need to show someone that is successful otherwise we will never have a 3rd season."

My guess is that the 16 year old kid struck it rich and knew about it halfway though the mining season. After Discovery realized the Jackoff clan sucked, they double-tracked and went back to that kid and Dakota Fred to make the season more interesting.

And it was so obvious that Dakota Fred's son was going to leave for a night out on the town before the even had the big "fight". What makes it funnier is they act like they are tough guys yet they cry and hug each other. There's nothing wrong w/ that, but don't act like a tuf guy if you cry when daddy tells you to hurry up. LOL.

^ Yeah your theory on double tracking sounds plausible.

The last sentence of your post was nicely worded, I lol'd.

Really frustrating to watch the Hoffman crew. Bunch of sobbing naive amateurs who can't get s*** done. Todd's terrible at pretty much everything but it's not like the crew deserves any better, the herd of sheep they are.

I guess it might grow boring pretty soon if they just kept finding enormous amounts of gold and everything was smooth sailing but the way it's been for the majority of the show is just tilting.

It's funny how bad Dakota Fred's acting is and how hard he tries for the cameras. I love the show though once I ignore that stuff. The actual mining is real and that's what I watch it for. I could care less if they get in an arguments. I wish there was less fake drama and more mining.

Loled at the hoffmans spending a week clearing an area with no gold based on a gut instinct instead of making a phone call.

I got the impression Todd said "theres 200 ounces under here." after they found out it was already mined 60 years ago. It just seemed so forced. As soon as he said it, I figured they would find nothing.

Also, I'm surprised Discovery showed that mistake. You know a bunch of enviornmental people are going to call up and complain they destroyed land for no reason.

I thought it was funny that they assumed since there were trees, it had to be there for hundreds of years. That far north sees sunlight basically 24 hours a day in the summer. **** grows fast.

And that bet between Jack and Fred was LOL bad.

"I bet we find more gold in a week than you did all last year!"

"Oh yea? I bet we find more in a day than you do all year."

(shake)

I do like Fred though. He's entertaining and hamming it up for cameras.

Yeah Fred is a hoot. I also agree that I would much prefer to see the actual mining and not all this obviously scripted back story. Like why waste a whole episode on showing dude clear a piece of land for nothing? Just kinda pointless. I do like the kid Parker and hope he kills it.

Aside from all the complaints it's still the best scripted Alaska gold mining show on Friday nights so I'll keep tuning in.

Hoffmans FTW!

Oh btw, remember Darcy in Season 1 that didn't come back? Well he has a blog where he basically reveals everything like what was scripted and not scripted and a bunch of other stuff because he was pissed at everyone. It was an interesting read.

EDIT: Just checked his blog again because it's been a while. Looks like he is trying to get his own show.

The show is major addictive. I got a new pitch for discovery:

They Hoffmans need to outbid Dave Hester and Darryl Sheets on a couple of good units so that they can then go see Rick Harrison and the Old Man and hopefully sell for a nice profit so they can get the equipment they need for season 3.

I call it Alaska Pawn Storage Rush.

Best show ever!

Lol!! That was so bad, and when he told the rest of the crew, I thought for sure they would be like, that was dumb. But Todd rolled right with it, must have been another gut feeling. He is lol bad, what is his background he just seems like an idiot.

I cannot comprehend how they found an investor. I mean you have video evidence of how stupid these guys are and you give them money? The entire Hoffman crew is incredibly stupid, and anybody that trusts them is stupid.

Mine owner, "Everything on this side of the creek has been mined already, so stay over on that side."

Todd, "This is too hard over here, oh look, trees, I bet thats never been mined over there where the guy said it has been." LOL, WHAT?!

My wife watched it and summed it up best. "So basically the Hoffmans screw it up bad every week. Someone on one of the crews storms off and comes back the next morning. Parker runs a legit mine, with results, and for drama sake they show a mechanical breakdown at his mine, or an employee with an attitude?"
Me, "Yeah, pretty much, but I still cant stop watching it."

I really liked the 1st Season, but this season feels like a carbon copy. Why are they doing the same storyline again for the first few episodes? I'm tired of watching the Hoffmans build another processing plant. I want to see them mining instead of clearing land and fabricating re-inforcements on their machines.

Probably because they piss away the entire season screwing up over and over again and do not find any gold/barely do any mining. But I agree, I would rather watch a 6 episode season of actual mining than this.

Don't forget, they got money from Discovery. Not only that, but in 10 years, that crew can still find work by saying "Discovery filmed us, etc." So it's probably easier to find investors than you think it is.

Tonight's episode was just a LOL-fail. It took 2 years to find out you need to drill first? Really? I suspected that last year but didn't say anything b/c it seemed too obvious. (Meaning, I assumed they drilled before they even did anything else.)

This show......so.......frustrating.
I'll quote George Hearst from Deadwood, "all I care about is the color".

Please show us some gold mining.

Oh and go Parker!

Also before I forget plus1 to the Dutchman who in 2 minutes of screen time was far more interesting and deserving of a show than any of these other clowns we've been following around for 2 seasons. Give him his own show pronto.

so parker is failing and falling behind

dakota fred is ****ed - i think i read he wasn't very successful overall but had like 2 out of 9 seasons where he actually did well mining.

isn't that like a bunch of the hoffman's equipment he bought that wasn't winterized that is just breaking down now

hoffman crew finally sick of gut feelings
tho they still haven't run any dirt and don't even know if their wash plant works

it'll be pretty fishy if they suddenly hit some massive load of gold

this show is turning into a bunch of guys spending money to dig holes and ride around on their heavy machinery

Yea that's pretty much it.

It's like filming guys hiking the AT and after 2 years saying "It's just a bunch of guys walking."

I have no idea why I watch this. The only two I can stand are Parker and his Grandfather. Take the time to read the blog by Darcy, and things start to make sense.
