I'm two episodes into the new season, and not enjoying it nearly as much as the first. It feels more like a sequel than a Season Two. "Hey, the gang's back together...but they don't have much to do."

Unless, (minor spoiler)

Spoiler:
the sexism Debbie is running into trying assert herself as producer is supposed to be a big deal to me.

My indifference to this plot line might color ME as sexist--as well as, "I'm just passing time watching this show, waiting for Maron's next scene."

I didn't feel that way in the first season, I thought Ruth was a great character, and watching her journey (as well as the rest of the girls) was fun. But there hasn't been much "journey" in these first two eps. And the 80's nostalgia has played out, IMO--a shopping mall montage under Billy Joel's "You May Be Right" did nothing for me.

I'll prob watch the rest for Maron, tho.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I felt watching it too.

Man I found myself fast forwarding a lot in this season. Things just kind of happen, there didn't seem to be any well crafted stories to tell. The only episode I thought had some punch was Welfare Queen's episode.

I thought season three was much better than 2. I really enjoyed the Freaky Friday episode. I am glad they finally thought to include injuries and the toll it takes. Maron and his daughter seem to be doing their own tv show honestly... it is almost completely disconnected from the rest of the cast.

I enjoyed season 1. I quit season 2 after a few episodes. This feels like a show I can just jump into season 3 without watching 2. Is that accurate?

Yeah definitely. There are two background storylines (Maron's daughter writes a script and they shop it around and the producers Bash and Liberty struggle to balance their personal lives with work) but otherwise it's essentially a monster-of-the-week with a funny ensemble cast.

They add two more side characters - a casino owner and a "female impersonator" (1980s language) that are solid, too.

Episode 3 was the best episode ever.

Yeah, if you watch one thing, watch episode 3. You can skip the rest.
