Rectify is elite. Nothing else like it on TV.

DC, that's one hundred percent true that there's nothing like Rectify on TV. It's a gutsy show told at an indie film pace. It wouldn't work anywhere but Sundance (for non-premium shows). It's also one of my favorite looking shows on TV, and often one of my favorite sounding shows on TV (though not all episodes had great mixes). I still haven't gotten to start season 2 yet.

CMAR, Hannibal is 2 seasons, and those are my three favorite shows of 2014 so far (in order, Fargo, Hannibal, TD). I think the one season versions of TD and Fargo (intended as miniseries vs. series) pretty far outstrip Rectify (for me, Fargo outstrips anything I've seen in recent and probably not so recent memory, but that's a taste thing), which I think was really finding its footing and intended as a very long arc if it would be given the chance. So, on that basis alone, that's why I'm waiting to put Rectify in my top 5 until the end of season 2. Rectify was probably in my top 5 or 6 last year, but I can't remember exactly where I ranked it. If it's better than season 1, it definitely deserves to be in the conversation with those shows.

Utopia season 2 is where my heart is this summer. The new trailer from a couple days ago was soooo good and they are expanding the cast with some great actors.

I really have to get back to this. Face melted after first episode but haven't been back. I don't know if my wife can take it and it's difficult for me to solo shows.

Watched the first episode, loved it. Not sure my wife was too into it. Vectrex mentioned in an episode so I have to go back...

Watched the new SyFy show Dominion last night. The movie it's based on (Legion) was better and I barely remembered the movie. I guess it's ok, but really generic paint by numbers stuff.

It doesn't stay anywhere near as good as the first episode overall, so far, but it's definitely still worth watching.

I thought kind of the same thing as you about Tyrant, CMAR, especially wrt the family - although I hated the son instead of the wife. The wife was kind of annoying and not a very believable character but I can kinda see where the angle is coming from about how his being so closed off affects those around him.

But the son being all like "NO I WANT TO SEE OUR UNCLE" when they're trying to bounce? Yeah you deserved to get slapped you little ****.

It also bothered me a little that good TV shows have been spoiling us so much lately with complex characters, whereas Barry's family in Abbudin is almost cartoonishly evil. But the story might go somewhere cool so I'll watch a couple more episodes and see if it improves.

The Flash is probably my favorite comic character ever, though I'm not a huge fan of the Barry Allen version, and I found the pilot to be really really good. It accomplishes a lot in a one hour episode of tv without feeling rushed (lol).

Spoiler:
I hated the oh nao barry now has a tragic past thing that was retconned into the comics, but it works really well here as part of his origin, and I loved loved loved the Crisis reveal at the end. They clearly have a major arc set up for the season, which was something that was somewhat lacking in the early S1 episodes of Arrow, and that turned out great. This has the chance to be amazing.

Can't wait for all the racist neckbeards to come out of the woodwork and complain about Iris Allen being black.

Dominion was so forgettable I watched it a couple nights ago and can't remember a single thing about it.

Edit, looked it up. I like the concept but it just felt so generic and sloppily written. I'll probably give it another ep or two but don't expect it to last if it doesn't improve dramatically fro the pilot (though lots of shows do).

Only possible reason I would ever watch a second episode would be to see those three characters executed. The wife in particular - a clueless, sheltered, unsupportive, bitch. Hatedhatedhated them.

Your husband doesn't want to return to his father's murdering, repressive dictatorship and you can't figure out why? You think it's important for him to confront said psychopath strongman in the name of "closure" and to "lift the emotional weight" he's been carrying all these years? Are you ****ing kidding me? When things start to go bad, he tries to GTFO to avoid getting mired in the upcoming chaos and very likely save all your lives but you want to stop and whine about feelings? Diediediediedie!
pretty sure the wife is a shrink so she carries all that back home and is going overboard when it comes to him

i watched the first 3 episodes of Chasing Life on abc family. i like it. the main girl is delightful. in the first episode she is diagnosed with cancer. basically it's a pos soap opera, and you'll only like it if you have a massive crush on the girl

can one of you explain what the hell the post-credits scene was when

Spoiler:
guy from Ed went into the secret room, stood up from his wheel chair, and saw some newspaper article from the future about the flash?

are we supposed to have any clue wtf was going on?

Flash Comics Spoilers and TV Show Speculation:
Spoiler:

Barry Allen died saving the mainstream DCU in the comics in the 80's during a massive crossover called Crisis on Infinite Earths, which featured the sky turning red.

He was one of the few mainstream superhero characters that was effectively killed off for good, until he finally came back a few years ago after a 20+ year absence.

The newspaper is signifigant because it indicates some version of Crisis on Infinite Earths will happen, or will need to be prevented.

I'm guessing Cavanaugh's character is a time traveler from that time period. Time travel is a huge part of the Flash mythos.

I think first paragraph is accurate but irrelevant to ranking and the second paragraph goes down to preference. Rectify is on par with hannibal and TD, for me. And I really liked hannibal and TD.

Rectify has already started strong in s2 and quality would have to dip before I'd question whether this is an elite show.

I haven't seen Fargo yet but it's probably in my top 20 for movies, so I'm pretty happy to hear it has a great start.

Almost Royal

New comedy series from BBCAmerica. Watched the first two eps last night. Hilarious.

It's sorta like borat. They go around doing things in character as British aristocrats traveling across America.

You probably won't like it if you didn't after 2 eps
