Anyone watch Defiance? It premiered last night on SyFy. I liked it quite a bit. It compares in style to Firefly, somewhat.

Haven't watched it yet, but a lot of what I've read about it reminds me a lot of Babylon 5.

Should I watch shameless UK or US first?

i can't really help you there because i have only seen the US version (which is fantastic) but from everything i have heard this is one of the rare examples where the US adaption is actually better than the UK original.

I thought the first hour was kinda meh but it picked up in the second half so I will be giving it a few episodes at least.

I was positivly surprised. Liked it a lot, so far better than falling skies, V and most of other new scifi shows. But it feels a lot like a one seaons show

I waited a couple months for Defiance to premiere. It finally came on last night and I forgot about it. lol

I'm watching it now. A little over 1hr into it and I'm liking it so far.

Most agree season 4 is the best but to be honest every season is great

I've watched all 5 season 3 times.

First time round i thought 5th was the best. But this is because I watched them continuously and 5th had more action so to speak.

2nd time round I thought that 3rd was the best simply because of the last two episodes.

3rd time round 4th is the best, the acting during the 4th season was amazing.

Personally I found watching them the 2nd/3rd time round was far more enjoyable.

4th: 9.7/10
3rd: 9.6/10
1st: 9.5/10
2nd: 9.3/10
5th; 9/10

The Defiance premiere got the most viewers of a SyFy show since 2009. SyFy sent out a press release lauding it's ratings so they seem happy. Plus, there's a big tie-in to a video game. I think it'll be around more than a year...

The first seasons of each are roughly equal, where each has it's strength and weaknesses, but after that the US version ****s all over the UK version, which just becomes a slightly more raunchy version of Coronation St.

I've been on the periphery of most 2+2 Wire threads and this thread is the first time I've ever heard anyone say this. At the time it was considered a pretty big letdown.

There are several huge OOTV Wire threads, click here:

How long does it The Wire take to get into?

I've tried to watch it twice and never got past season 1, episode 3. :X

It does start a little slow because there's so many characters to build. I can't say exactly how many episodes it takes to become 'hooked' but keep pushing, it's well worth it. And the 2nd time through the show, you will enjoy s1 more because you already know the characters.

Honestly I don't think I ever 'got into it' when I watched it. I saw it all and enjoyed it but it definitely didn't grab me like some other shows.

I started a second watch with a roommate who hadn't seen it and I was loving it from the get go. Unfortunately she wasn't too keen so we quit half way through season 1.

My suggestion would be to set aside a Saturday or Sunday and shotgun a half dozen episodes or so. If you try to do one or two episodes here and there you'll never get into it. It's more like a novel than most series and it's really not at all episodic. In some ways the division into episodes is somewhat arbitrary - It's a bit like watching a movie in half hour chunks.

I forgot to add.
Putting subtitles on might also be useful. If you're like me you'll probably have missed random bits and might not even have noticed.
As there are a lot of characters and stuff going on it makes life a lot easy when you're getting all the information.
