Definitly, yes. I watch a LOT of TV shows and The Americans is definitly worthy of my top 10 (bottom part). I remember not being THAT convinced by the first season, but then it gets better and better (except for a much weaker season 5) until the amazingly good season 6.

I've been on a binge watching spree lately (The Man in The High Castle, Billions, Ozark, The Americans, Godless, Halt and Catch Fire, Sharp Objects, etc) and I must say that The Americans has been my favorite watch (along with the much shorter Sharp Objects).

Yeah but season 1 was teetering already. First episode of season 2 seemed same as most of season 1, some good parts, some dumb stuff and I leave with an overall feeling of wasted potential.

I'll keep watching because it is a show that I really want to be good but it probably won't be.

American Gods had so much behind the scenes drama that I didn't think it could possibly not be a train wreck. That said, I'd watch Ian McShane read the constitution for an hour ever week, so it will never be truly terrible as long as he's on the show.

I'm going to be the one to give some pause on this. Yes, it's critically acclaimed and high quality, etc. But it also has many super slow parts to it. So you should realize what you're getting into. Even though the consensus now that it's over is how great it was, I remember many of the threads for each season were negative because it took forever for things to happen.

I would still agree that the payoffs were good, but I think you should be prepared that there will be slow parts.

Maybe being able to binge watch it (~10-12eps/week) helped me loving the show so much. Helps with the slower parts.

Actually, I find myself watching shows this way a lot now. I used to like my weekly episode till a couple years ago when I started liking to wait for all episodes (or at least full season) to be released before I start watching.

True, you’d probably have a much better idea what’s going on if you binge The Americans. I watched it weekly, and there were a lot of times I barely remembered something.

I've never hated a character more than the daughter in the Americans.

You probably need to watch Shameless then, lol. I hate Frank so bad. Not as much now as in previous seasons, but still, I will definitely celebrate if/when he kicks the bucket.

Frank is great and probably one of the better characters on that show. Debbie is by far the worst.

Frank is great, and william h macy is even a bit of frank in real life. it seems that only his wife is getting charged in the college admissions scandal. just like frank to standby while things around him go to crap.

Lol. Now I'm imagining Shameless music in the background, with Frank running from the Feds for dear life while they arrest his wife and kids.

I don't know, ever since he called child protective service on his own kids I've really hated him (season 1, maybe 2?). I guess I'm weird. I think he adds to the show, but goddamn I hate his character. When he got the transplant I was pretty pumped for his death, lol.

well he's supposed to be a terrible person but he's def the best character.
I can't stand deb n fiona.

janice used to be one of my most hated characters but no one comes close to the daughter on the Americans.

It's really weird listening to all the Shameless talk when your only point of reference is the original UK show.

Love that! Reminds of when we FINALLY got HBO and how pumped I was.

What is it about these intros that grab you? I like the simple Netflix one too

Growing up, General Cinema played a random intro before the start of their movies and everyone I know that grew up with it still loves it and has a nostalgic fondness for it

Ya it's really the oddest thing I've heard in a while. Him being a totaly hatable degen and hilarious at the same time is one of the high points of the show. I'd say Frank and Kev/V sex combo are the funniest things about this show since the beginning.

If you don't like Frank I'm surprised that person even likes the show about a bunch of degens from the ghetto.

You from the UK? Is it the same for The Office too? It's funny that I love two ripped off shows from that area and barely watched the originals. I tried with the Office but Couldn't get into it. I might have to check out the UK version of Shameless cuz the show was so awesome in the beginning.

Anyone have any opinions for the UK Shameless?

Oh hell yeah! Happy to see that Hulu has some licensing rights in Europe. Last I checked (years ago) they didn't.

i generally LOVE uk shows, but i couldn't watch UK shameless, and i loved usa shameless.

most people don't know that veep is a usa version of the uk show "thick of it". imo veep might be the best comedy ever, so i like it better than thick of it, but thick of it is ****ing hilarious and def worth a watch if you like veep.
