Baltimore as a city and especially the parts The Wire was set in, is arguably way worse than 15 years ago. Population keeps dramatically declining, because the combination of ridiculously high property taxes and high crime doesn’t really appeal to most people. The city lost 25% of its population over the last 30 years and still posted the highest number of murders ever last year.
I remember when I first watched The Wire I got curious if the school system in Baltimore is really that bad and found out that there are schools where not a single student is proficient in math.
Everyone who works in Baltimore and can afford to leave moves to one of the surrounding jurisdictions that also have significantly lower income taxes.
To bring it back to recent TV shows, looks like The Connors second weekend drop was in line with the drop the Roseanne rival had, 25-27%. I thought it would be higher, considering they went against game 1 of the World Series. I didn’t watch the episode but apparently it was quite good?
