Marcella was a good watch.

Just in regards to Netflix etc, a lot of the shows the US get aren't shown straight away in lolAustralia. We often get shows way later which is probably why downloading is so prolific here. I prefer just skimming this thread for recommendations rather than indepth discussion which I'll go to an actual thread for.

I gotta start watching this, I have it on my DVR but too tired or I'm watching other shows to start it.

The first few episodes are slow going, but interesting...but around episode 4, it just keeps ratcheting up and up with the tension and bleakness and, well, terror.

I usually like that kind of stories, but 6.1 rating on IMDB makes me want not to give it a shot, especially considering i'm already late on most of my current tv shows.

Re: The Terror, it's really good. Probably not for everyone, but really good none the less.
I just finished watching this and I actually really enjoyed it. I was a little dubious after the first episode but decided to give it a bit more of a chance due to the fact I love post apocalyptic stuff. There were a couple of cringey teenagey type moments but overall`it was decent. Maybe a 7 or something. I am a sucker for this genre though.

Evil Genius just isn't very interesting past the first episode. Lots of fat that could have been trimmed and gets very repetitive. Slogging through the last episode now and I'm not even sure I'm going to finish it.

The Jinx + The Staircase + Making a Murderer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Evil Genius

This. Additionally, not everyone lives in the USA. For the rest of the world many shows come later.

Rewatching homeland with girlfriend. Such a good show its first 2 season. 3 was okayish. Still not going to watch past season 3 for obvious reasons.

Homeland pulling the trigger on the CIA bombing was great after the letdown on Winter bitching out in the bunker season 1. Dana is plain, but should make a reappearance for season 10 or whatever.

Isn't Homeland good again? I haven't watched since S3 but that's what some people have told me.

You can't go Homeland again! First 3 seasons is all anybody should ever need or want.

I couldnt imagine caring about it again. I also think S1 is all you need, it was downhill after that. S2/S3 were watchable but not good, really.

I assume you guys know that (S1-2 spoilers):

Spoiler:
The writers wanted to kill Brody at the end of S1 and again at the end of S2 and Showtime ordered them not to. Hard for me to take the show seriously after that.

Hard for me to take Showtime seriously anymore. Dexter, Weeds, Californication, Shameless etc, etc. I don't think they've had a show that ended when it should've. At this point, I don't think I watch any more Showtime shows.

Yeah, Dexter was the same, they ordered the writers not to kill him off at the end of the show, in case they want to do a Dexter movie or whatever nonsense. And I agree, I don't want to watch shows where the network is going to interfere with the writing.

You're not all wrong, but Shameless definitly just had one of its best seasons

Personally I'd rather risk seeing a spoiler for a show I'm watching here or there than just have spoiler boxes in every post.

Why don't people just discuss shows in the separate threads for them and leave this as a recommendation/general criticism thread? That's all I use this thread for but maybe I am in the minority.

Because some shows don't have their own threads ("General TV Discussion and Thread for Shows Without A Thread Thread"). It's precisely the case for "The Terror" that we discussed above and that (sadly) doesn't have its own thread.

You're right though, every decent to major show should have its own thread, so we can use this one as a recommendation one.

It used to be the case, more often than not with a very nice/thorough OP with pics, IMDB links etc, but people have gotten lazy lately it looks like.

I don't expect anyone here to like it, but I enjoyed Aggretsuko. Don't watch it if you're not into Anime at least a bit, as I think some of the enjoyment of the show is that it uses anime tropes here and there for comedic effect, although I'm certain it's not a prerequisite. It's about a Hello Kitty type character (I think it's one of the official characters from Sonio?) who has a job as an accountant but in her personal time, she sings straight up Death Metal at a private Karaoke to let off some steam.

The characters all seem very flat and trope-like at first, but the deeper point of the whole show is that people aren't always what they seem, so it has it's purpose. I liked almost all the characters by the end of the season, even the ones I couldn't stand at the start. The writing is actually pretty solid, as easy to digest as it all is.

I liked it. It's ten 15min episodes. Japanese audio is way better. I didn't like the English AT ALL and I think the jokes fall flat.

Worth mentioning again, if you don't like anime, you may not enjoy it the way it's meant to be enjoyed. Personally, I can't wait for more.

^I actually watched the first episode of this completely at random last night because the thumbnail caught my eye. I haven't watched much anime in my life, but I generally enjoy it when I do.

The first episode was entertaining enough that I'm probably in for the rest of the season.
