I didn't love Bored to Death (stopped after maybe half a dozen eps), but people with good taste recommend it a lot, so it's probably worth checking out.

Suits and early Leverage and early Lie to Me is good. If you liked season one of Nikita you will like season 2. Falling Skies is a bit hit or miss but may be something you enjoy. The rest is a mix of stuff ive not seen and bad stuff id never recommend.

Shameless is the best on that list.

IMO Treme is the best show on that list, by far, but it's more like Literature than television. If you had trouble getting into The Wire you won't get into Treme. (Treme is nowhere near as good as The Wire).

Lie To Me is pretty good particularly if you like Roth but gimicky and tries very hard not to be The Mentalist. Oh, not really. May have the biggest quality gap between lead character and supporting cast in television history.

Leverage is a pretty good caper/procedural. However, it's quite formulaic and suffers from A-Team problems (somehow manages to stay G-rated even though heroes should be building up a pretty decent body-count. But it's all in good fun and nobody really gets hurt.) Don't be surprised if you get bored with it after a season and a half or so.

Warehouse 13 is The X-Files light. Bit of a guilty pleasure but also very formulaic and very light-weight. Feels a bit too much like a kiddy show and also don't be surprised if you wind up getting bored with it too.

I wouldn't bother with any of the other ones (Definitely avoid The Event and Falling Skies - terrible. The Cape is really pointless too.) Caprica only if you're an absolute completist for Battlestar Galactica (Caprica is a huge disappointment and horribly wasted opportunity). You might try Bored to Death if you liked Louie and Curb Your Enthusiasm (both are much, much better) but I really couldn't get into it - Woody Allen probably thinks it's too neurotic.

Edit: I haven't seen Shameless

Yeah I knew Treme and Shameless were the highest quality-wise on my list. I've watched and pretty much loved every drama series HBO has done but for some reason the premise of Treme didn't seem that interesting when it first came out. Shameless is currently airing season 2 so I'll probably just wait until its over and watch both back to back.

I generally don't like the standard procedural shows (everything on CBS) so I guess I just kept downloading Lie to Me & Leverage out of habit. They are probably my absolute last resort.

I'm a huge Battlestar Galactica fan but it seems Caprica was a general dissappointment.

Just watched the first episode of Suits and liked it so its probably that, then Bored to Death.

At least Justified, Luck, and Eastbound & Down will all be done in a couple weeks and then another couple weeks after that everything else will end.

If you've watched S1 of V, and was a bit on the fence about it, then I can say it only gets worse. I can't remember if they actually cancelled it before the end of S2. I had stopped watching at that point.

The Event seemed awful (only watched about 3 episodes) and I think Lie to Me is pretty bad as well.

Haven't really watched much else (but have also heard bad things about Caprica).

I may be the only person in the world who really loved the last half of the 1st/only season of Caprica. I thought it was great. Obviously could see how it could be a bit tough to get through the first half.

Bored to death is awesome but not for everyone. It has a certain style and worldview that could just go over the head of a "well-adjusted" person, I think.

Watched the first episode of the 3rd season of "Ugly Americans" on Wednesday. Very solid/funny, IMO. Poor Mark, even his successes are failures.

Bumping a post I originally made in the Parenthood thread because this post is not about Parenthood:

Wait, that looks like a dump! There's a mother****ing Burger King! What the hell happened?!?!?

It turns out that is fitting, because this is in Los Angeles.

You have betrayed me, Parenthood.
Watching the season finale of Southland, I began to feel an odd sense of deja vu wash over me:

That red building...why does it look so familiar?!?

OH ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME WITH THIS ****

****ing Los Angeles. At least Southland is actually set there but christ, can't you guys find some new places to film your ****?

Maybe it's easy to get permits in that area. Shooting in L.A. is harrrrd.

I heard it has a pretty bad drop off after the Pilot, so you might want to temper your expectations.

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was the best trailer to any show ever!

SyFy has a HUGE winner on their hands. Holy **** that was epic. Its gonna score so many fans its unreal if they have a plot that is above average for the early BSG run and packs all that action into the 2 hour pilot.

I find it hard to believe they have funded and shot this extended pilot and will be releasing it as "a digital series" instead of traditional broadcasting though. Either they know something we dont or they are taking a HUGE gamble probably taking a loss on the initial extended pilot but planning to build a huge fanbase to capitalise on later kinda taking the same approach as BSG with the miniseries then the actual show.

Not really. It stays safely watchable, but with some really good scenes from time to time. Towards the end of the first, it's a bit better, and the 2nd season so far has been damn good. It'll never be close to top tier, but it's totally watchable.

I guess that shows how second hand information can be flawed. A close friend of mine was the music editor on season 1 (don't know if he's on season 2), and he said it went downhill pretty fast when I asked him about it. He's more into artistic stuff (he works on a pretty low brow, very popular show, as well), though, so it just might not have appealed to him.

I would agree the pilot is the best the show did, but the new chick was a good character and its an alright show. Not top tier but very watchable.

Downhill fast is way too strong. It didn't really change (aside from the new girl, who is a ton better), but the fact that it was a story-of-the-week format. It still is, but there is a seasonal villain this time around. The formula just got old but I liked the characters just enough to keep watching. Then I started to like a couple of them enough to actually enjoy it.

Bent has the following cast members:

Jeffrey Tambor (ad)
Amanda Peet (Studio 60)
Pasha Lychnikoff (deadwood)
JB Smoove (curb, til death)
Jesse Plemons (Friday night lights)
David Walton (a few crappy one season shows like perfect couples)

The first four episodes of bent are on hulu and i believe in on demand currently. Airs Wednesday night and so far nbc has been airing two a night which i hope doesn't mean they are burning it off but instead means that they just don't have anything else worth airing.

Pilot is getting pulled from hulu in 4 days so watch it while you still can: http://www.hulu.com/watch/342478/bent-pilot#s-p1-so-i0

It is funny and you should watch it.
