i like breaking bad! i finally finished it a few months ago. it was great. i think it's over rated, as most people have it as the greatest show ever or top 5 for sure.

hand maiden's tale i only saw the first three episodes. some greatness about it, but not addictively compelling for me. i'll probably go back and finish it some time. same with westworld.

as for twin peaks, i only watched 20 minutes, but holy hell it was laughably awful. just like what the hell is everyone thinking? maybe it gets a lot better? i hope so.

izombie was a struggle for me to get through. i did like it, but not a ton. and i don't think i've recommended it to anyone ever

buffy is amazing, but i totally get it's not for everyone. and it doesn't age that well. and lots of episodes are real garbage. but man, the high points are just amazing.

im really liking suburra.... i know i know, kiss of death. i apologize to anyone else who likes it.

it's just about some criminals in modern day italy. i think it's a completely italian production? but it seems like it's kind of clumsy. i imagine that is because italian tv production is not quite as polished as american tv. but that's part of the appeal for me. it's not just some slick american cookie cutter production. it's a little different.

i think my favorite thing about the show is how it kind of seems like it's in an alternate universe where dangerous scary gangsters dress like clowns and ride mopeds.

In all fairness I do think Buffy is great, Veronica Mars has 2 good seasons but the 3rd was pretty weak. As much as I wanted to like iZombie I couldn't get into it (i did watch a season and a half). The premise where Liv inhabits a new personality each week prevents me from connecting with the character. It was the same problem that plagued Whedon's Dollhouse where Eliza Dushku/Echo was a different doll each episode.

You still have weird taste though, vermin

Also, Sherlock Is Garbage, And Here's Why
Sure there's plenty of things wrong with Sherlock, but Andrew Scott's revolutionary portrayal of Moriarty was brilliant, maybe the best acting on tv ever. He completely re imagined the character and pulled it off like a madman artist. just brilliant.

lars mikkelsen playing the bad guy was amazing too. and of course the two leads are great. just the acting alone makes the show something special, and then add to that great characters and relationships, and mega production values.

yeah, i basically agree with all this. i just loved the third season of veronica mars only because i was so addicted to the show. i even listened to the godawful audiobook of veronica mars! it's on youtube and read by kristen bell at least. i liked it. but it's awful.

i do think the last scene in veronica mars is fantastic.

the main problem with izombie imo, is the characters are just boring. not only liv, but all of them.

"2 hours long, like I'm going to watch that"

So here I am, an hour in (not even watching it at 2x speed), and I can't stop. This is just brutal and everything is spot on. Thanks for the link.

Also I agree about Rome. S1 was great. S2 was ok, but going through 40 years of history caused some problems.

Agree that the end of S2 was rushed, but they only went from death of Caesar (44 BC) to Battle of Actium (31 BC). So 13 years.

Yeah, the original place I came across it said "It's pretty impossible to recommend a 2 hour video to someone, but here you go anyway" and my reaction was pretty spot on to yours.

i watched 13 minutes of the video. it seemed like a lifetime.

i disagree with the premise. i like over arching stories better than one off episodes. at least that was the premise of the first 13 minutes.

The premise was that the guy sucks at writing them. I didn't expect you to watch it.

I've never watched Sherlock because the guy playing him has a weird face but I watched maybe 30 minutes of that video essay.

I'm looking for something to watch. Here are my alltime faves:

Twin Peaks
The Wire
Sopranos
Westworld
The Leftovers
6 Feet Under

What am I missing out on that is similar? I know Breaking Bad and GOT are good shows but not ready to take them on yet. Thanks in advance.

You might try Boardwalk Empire, it’s not as good as the sopranos but fills the same niche imo

Anybody who likes The Wire and Sopranos would have to like Breaking Bad (and Boardwalk Empire too).

River is still the best show I've seen in the past few years. Top of the Lake S1 highly recommended as well.

True Detective S1 comes in a close third.
