Saw a few episode of Nova last night night that were really interesting.

The Smartest Machine on Earth- About the creation of the computer that will play Ken Jennings on Jeopardy next week.

http://video.pbs.org/video/1786674622

Making stuff smarter- Had a few cool segments including one about a coating the military started to put on fuel tanks in Iraq that automatically plugs bullet holes and shock absorbers made with a magnetized liquid
http://video.pbs.org/video/1786635771

How Smart are Animals- Showed animals from a dog to an octopus displaying amazing intelligence to solve problems. The 1st one they showed was a dog who was able to retrieve 100's of uniquely named toys just by someone telling him to find it by name. They then mixed in a new toy the dog had never seen before or heard it's name. The dog was asked to find the toy it had never seen before and was able to figure out that the toy it had never seen before must be the one it was being asked to get.

Shocked Criminal Minds gets a spin off. Though not a fan of Forest Whittaker at all. Annoying actor

I've been watching Brick City on Sundance Channel's OnDemand. Documentary that begins in Summer 2008 following Newark, NJ mayor Cory Booker and his inspired drive to make changes to the city. The cameras also follow some Newark residents who are struggling to make a better life for themselves.

As one reviewer put, it's like a "non-fiction blend of The Wire and The West Wing."

Season 2 recently started airing on Sundance Channel (5 episode season).

I thought it was pretty good with Mandy Patinkin but it's been mostly bad since. Meh, I still watch it.

Yeah, Giddeon is awesomely weird. The first two seasons with him were great. He is the quintessential profiler.

The backdoor pilot for this was very strange. Whittaker's character is so teh awsomeness that he gets to hand pick his team, including importing a foreign guy which can't be anything close to standard and yet we still get the cliché, "angry captain threatening to take cop's badge" scene from every 80's action movie evah. lol

On that scene alone the show looked ridiculously terrible.
My take on it. Unfortunately it went completely ignored. I'm so bitter.

In short, I kinda liked it but it doesn't quite meet its potential mainly because things are kept way too simple and predictable. The show went on a break sometime near the end of last year and I haven't picked up it again after its return (missed 3-4 eps I think). I might eventually, though.

There have been 4 episodes this season and I've found each one really fascinating and informative so far..
I just started watching this too after being on a Science kick lately and finding some Neil deGrasse Tyson vids which led me to Nova. Have only seen 3 episodes so far but its been interesting and NDGT is good in everything he seems to be on.

Came in here to post this. Not entirely sure what the article was going for, but I for one love Sepinwall and the like (AV Club, Poniewozik) and have no interest in the "traditional" television reviews the article mentions towards the beginning. I get that from Sepinwall. The fact that he only reviews shows that he watches, i.e. are somewhat interesting and likable, means that if a show keeps popping up on his blog or on his twitter it's probably worth looking into. I never would have watched Terriers without Sepinwall, and that's easily in my Top Five shows of last year.

Ive watched all the Eps now. Quite like it, though that might have something to do with there being very little on right now worth watching.

On another note anyone watch the 1st episode of Mad Dogs on Sky One last week? Looks like it could be half decent, 2nd episode on tonight.

Has anyone seen the last few episodes of Gold Rush? Basically they spent $300,000 to get $20,000 in gold. To top it off, they have a huge glory hole (LOL) and the guy that owns the property won't let them come back. So they did all the hard work and next year people that know what they are doing will have easy access to the gold.

So now the crew is spending even more money to dig for gold 400 miles north in the Yukon mountains. They need something like 300 ounces just to break even. I think they got 20 ounces last season. And now it's going to be even more remote, more difficult and a shorter window of oppurtunity because it's further north and in the mountains.

They keep talking about glory holes and virgin soil. LOL.
