lol at the killing hate... im sorry i missed the thread. that sounds like a fun time

every show has stupid stuff to make fun of, and the killing is no different. but im gonna take a guess that some of that hate was because the show had a female lead, in a traditionally male dominated genre

this forum has been known for that kind of thing

the dynamic between the two leads is great. that alone, made it worth the watch for me

Not even a little bit…..

For a lot of people, it was all of the goofy redhearings and dragging out the case how they did. But I think the ego of the show runner is what soiled it. I think they said something along the lines of “You don’t give The Sopranos **** for not…” I think the pilot was unanimously liked. The vibe and the leads were great. The acting overall was outstanding. It seemed like it was going to be amazing.

I do wonder if I’d think differently about the show now considering at the time, the show seemed to be about a crime, but it was really about the characters. That’s a generic way of putting it, but it’s an approach I don’t think people were used to at the time with a crime like they introduced.

Basically, the show we got was not what we thought we were getting so it was watched with a different mindset.

Watched Black Bird on AppleTV+. It was a pretty decent watch, but the first episodes were definitely stronger than the second half where Jimmy was mainly trying to goad the confession out of Larry. The prison riot thing was really weird. Many guards and inmates died and there was absolutely no noticeable aftermath to it. It seems like the writers couldn't figure out a way for Jimmy to get closer to Larry so they wrote in the riot so the two characters could mop up some blood afterwards and bond through that.

I enjoyed Se 1 and 2. Se3 has been a chore to get through before my ATV+ sub expires soon. I am currently stuck in the middle of Se3 Ep7 and will probably just give up on it. The IMDB episode score graph seems to agree with me:

Watched The Bear based on recommendations here. Amazing show, really well written. There is not a character in it that is badly written or is unintentionally annoying or feels unnecessary.

Final episode spoiler
Spoiler:
Don't know if I loved the deus ex machina ending with money being hidden in the tomato cans, is it supposed to make sense? Or are we just meant to believe that the brother didn't mind all the financial edge-of-cliffs the company was facing, and just kept piling up secret/black money?

Is there any other good show about a kitchen or something? I think I found something new I am a sucker for .

I did watch the whole season in one sit, so the characters must have resonated somewhat, but I don't normally enjoy when the writers lean on people screaming or being unnecessarily mean, which happened a ton

Also, yeah, totally agree with your thoughts on the spoiler.

You might like the YouTube cooking show by the chef consultants for The Bear, their interaction is hilarious because Mattie is completely out of control and she obviously likes things organized and controlled, its like type A colliding with chaos (4 episodes so far)

If you like alternative history stuff and space or science fiction, For All Mankind is a must watch.

If you are seeking compelling drama, or are expecting "prestige TV" quality plotting and characters, you should find something else to watch.

For All Mankind has soap opera quality drama and storytelling. However, the production values, overall acting, and the history/sci-fi stuff make it entertaining.

If you like the subject matter definitely check the show out as you'll likely really enjoy it. If not, I'm not sure I'd recommend it.

Beavis and Butthead new season is pretty good. It’s got me watching all their old episodes before my free month of Paramount+ expires.

The first half of the episode is way better than anything this season. It has Butthead cuckolding Chip Gaines and unlimited Beavis’s mom is a slut jokes.

Paper Girls on Prime is way better than expected so far after 3 or 4 episodes. I expected it to be an ST knock-off then I realized it had its own comic universe.

Animal Kingdom season 6 has been great. It is setting up for a wild ride on the series finale next week.

Yeah my wife loves this show - never watched it but have been getting sucked into the last couple eps while she's watching. I need to go back and watch from the beginning. Pretty wild show and the cast is great.

I watched the first ep of Slow Horses on Apple TV. Thought it was really fantastic. Way better than I was expecting as I have not heard a lot of buzz around that show (especially considering it has as big a star as Gary Oldman in it).

Oldman is awesome as you'd imagine, but the entire cast is great. It's very British, very sardonic sense of humor... great writing and I love all the spy stuff. Hope this one keeps up the quality from the pilot.

What's the OOTV consensus on Arrested Development (the original episodes, not the Netflix seasons)? HOF or just Hall of Very Good?

Aside from Cheers, which wins because I grew up on it, it’s my favorite sitcom. And it’s certainly the best written in those first 3 season. A remarkable piece of work!!

I'll skip the superlatives because I'll never put it over Seinfeld, but AD is very much worth the watch.
