is kubrick's 2001 the only space film/show to ever make space completely silent?

all the space stuff we watch have sounds of explosions, and sounds of engines roaring as the space ship flies by

I imagine not, but don't have an example. Related, though, it pissed me off that the reboot of Cosmos with Neil DeGrasse Tyson had the "whooshing" sound when his 'ship of the imagination' went by.

Seems like the sort of thing he definitely should've vetoed.

This plus a gajillion. Unfortunately, it made the audience think a little bit and was on in USA #n, so that ended that.

star trek lower decks

watched the pilot. i liked it! it's a ~20 minute cartoon. they had some good characters and twists. i laughed out loud a few times. it seemed like a good set up for a show.

if you like star trek, it's def worth 20 minutes to check out

It's great overall but Fleabag Season 2 is an all-time great season of modern TV.

Have a hard time getting past episode 2 of the boys, is it always this "corny" comedy-like or is it getting more serious?

Everyone who liked S1 of The Sinner is either forgetting the conclusion or did not stop and think about it for more than 10 seconds. Pretty great watch til you find out what happened imo.

S2 at least didn't suffer from this, although it wasn't quite as gripping during the journey.

Depends on the kids, but in general I think 14-16 yr olds would really like Lost and not get into The Americans at all.

This show is terrible. It reminds me of a standard Saturday morning space cartoon written for 12 year olds.

The old animated Star Trek is light years ahead of this crap.

Just finished S1 and completely agree, was super underwhelmed by the end. Wasn't going to bother with S2 but may if I can't find anything with higher potential.

Some series to consider:

Spiral (imdb rating >8.0, amazon prime, subs )- kind of a French version of Law and Order SVU except more explicit, several interesting crime cases and starts out very gruesome. Steamy side of Paris as well as the upper crust S2 may be better than S1.

Trapped (imdb rating >8.0, amazon prime, subs)-tired of the summer heat? see what its like in a small usually peaceful town in northern Iceland where the towns three overwhelmed police officers try to solve a gruesome murder during a snowstorm and avalanche . Reminded me of Fargo.

Alienist (imdb rating 7.7,TNT, Hulu) -- watch this for the amazingly detailed depiction of New York city life in 1896 including clothes , transport, buildings, telephone, lighting, streets, underworld, wealthy, culture , brothels and the exotic plots. The lead characters and the dialogue could be better.

Finally finished Too Old to Die Young (7.4 prime) highly stylized LA /mexico gangster crime story . Watch mainly for the visual framing lighting and music and the unusual interrelated characters and individual scenes. Overall story is not the point. No one is heroic. Sadistic and violent. 2nd half episodes really are better.

The Alienist is easily one of the best shows based on a book series.

Of course it helps that the books in their original publication run were read only by me and exactly 5 of my friends, so there's not millions of people screaming at the slightest deviation from the books, but Caleb Carr is a great Author.

That's crazy, I remember The Alienist being a huge bestseller when it first came out. It was everywhere. I even remember Caleb Carr going on NPR's Fresh Air with Teri Gross to promote it.
