I agree with the building consensus. Everything Sucks serves up a lukewarm helping of thin nostalgic gruel. End of the ****ing World is vastly superior.

I'm liking this French show on Amazon now, Black Spot. A little bit Twins Peakish but with a certain je ne sais quoi.

I ended up quitting on Babylon Berlin midway thru ep 4. My initial interest wasn't sustained when I saw they were dawdling a bit laying out the story. I might revisit it later, but I wish it were only 8 or 10 eps.

Agree about Everything Sucks. Only reasons I'm still watching is I've read it keeps getting better throughout the season, and because there's nothing much on right now except Olympics.

Altered Carbon was a pretty uneven but thought it did a surprisingly reasonable job of tying it together given how confusing it all was until the last few eps. Him being on ice for the prior 250 years was prob the silliest part, but they don't mention it that much so you can pretend it was 50 years and be better off for it.

I watched s1 of Imposters w my wife recently (Bravo > Netflix). It's like a very cheesy version of Sneaky Pete, and I really like the con man genre so it was an easy binge. For some reason Uma Thurman is in it.

everything sucks first episode was the worst. and i agree about the star wars and ironic song. that was stupid. but i liked it as the show went on. it was so easy to watch

babylon berlin LOVED it at first, but now i too am struggling to get through it. i'm on episode 5ish

lillyhammer a few years old, about a new york mafia guy who goes into witness protection in lillyhammer and his misadventures with the locals. pretty silly and low production values, pretty bad acting, especially from the lead, but i like it anyway. a couple of their american accents are soooooooo awful lol!!

Altered Carbon is one of my fave books, I've probably read it 5 times. On ep 4 of the show at the moment. It's hard for me to tell how confusing it is given I know the story, but it seems like a bit more narration would help. Voiceover narration would fit in with the noir style of it.

There are two sequel books, Broken Angels and Woken Furies. The second one (which is the worst) is sort of military sci-fi and follows Kovacs after he joins a mercenary company. Kovacs is even more of an ******* antihero and it's even more violent. It lacks the inventiveness of Altered Carbon and is a bit of a slog to read, but it might translate quite well to the screen. Lot of action, journeys to new planets, and so forth.

By the way, the author used to be a high school English teacher and quit to become a full time writer after Joel Silver optioned the rights to make a movie of Altered Carbon (his debut novel) for $1 million. This was back in the early-mid 2000s, well before Netflix was a thing. Imagine if they'd tried to cram the whole story into a 2 hour movie.

Everything Sucks certainly doesn't try to be subtle with the era references, hold on a second while I open this can of Surge, ok what was I saying again, oh right, extreme closeup on sony discman.

I don't know what the availability of the early eps is, but there a couple of dozen episodes that were made before HBO picked them up, that are great. They're on HBO on demand and probably other places if you have access.

Detectorists is one of my favourites atm. I think the reason that those days are so great is that there is only 6 of them!

Caught up on Waco...if a quarter of what is in this actually happened, the FBI royally screwed the pooch on this one and is directly responsible for every single death there.

Probably because
Spoiler:
ragnar died?
(S4 spoiler)

Vikings is a really good binge because of the pace. Im at the beginning of S4 now and the pace slows down alot this season, but still good.

Curious about S5, but 20eps a season is to much for this show imo.

Second season of the absurdist superhero parody, The Tick, is on Amazon right now. Also on is the early 2000s version. It's just as absurd but less funny.

Spoiler:
In the earlier series Arthur (Mothman) makes his own suit but can still fly. Also different superheros are featured.

Post-Ragnar Vikings is absolutely worth watching. Floki still killing it as is Ivar the Boneless.
