His story should be fascinating though, so I'll probably give another couple of episodes a go soon. My fear is that, as it's still very recent, not much good information will have come out about him yet.
It got a lot better from EP2 onwards, fwiw. I think eps 2-5 were super entertaining, I couldn't stop watching despite the shallowness of the characters. They show some backstory about his childhood and first steps into the cartel world etc later on as well.

Cool thanks, I'll keep going. As I said, just worried about it getting over-dramatised.

I know the story is "based on" El Chapo (which basically doesn't mean much), but turning into a Michael Bay movie with cartel names would be a big turn-off imo.

If you were thinking of watching Netflix's Gypsy, don't. It's terrible.

Have a bad feeling Salvation is going to end up being a let down but the first episode was decent. Still rooting for the asteroid.

Salvation is good enough, I'm in.
I could do without the Tyrant wife tho.

I'd love to see more of the old studio clips shown in The Defiant Ones. I thought the first episode was just okay, but the 2nd and 3rd were fantastic. The first half of the fourth episode was really strong as well with the Eminem/Dre storyline. The last half of episode four came off as a giant suck off to Beats and I didn't care for it that much. I liked the way they marketed Beats, but then you realize they are doing the same thing to you as a viewer.

I'm sorry - new comedy on TruTv with a bunch of actors who I know from stuff but don't know their names, including Rafi from the league. first 2 eps were on Wed and were really funny. I actually laughed out loud several times which is rare

I actually liked that about it. I've never wanted Beats and probably never would, but the fact that this excellent show turned out to be basically an intricate advertisement for them cracks me up and I think its brilliant.

That said, I didn't need any of that last half of ep4, but it was worth it for the first 3.5.

I think we'll see more of how el Chapo came to be a boss through flashbacks in S2 while he's in prison. Show has high ceiling/moderate floor.

The Defiant Ones

A fantastic documentary on Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine.

Cannot rate this highly enough, slickly directed and produced, all sorts of different music etc. Check it out.

Watched Friends from College this weekend. Pretty meh, only characters I really liked were Fred Savage and some of the peripheral characters. My favorite character was the guy from Ally McBeal, Greg German I think, playing a douchy wall street guy.

"I don't have time for fiction. I'm more of a non fiction guy, my favorite books are Liar's Poker, Moneyball, and The Big Short"

"Oh, so you're a big Michael Lewis fan"

(taken aback) "Who's that?"

And I know I'm not supposed to like Peele's character but man I really didn't like him, or find him interesting. I think the main guy you have to either like or find interesting (preferably both) or the show is just a disaster. His character made zero sense, and the girls he was doing sex to made no sense either. It's like the show couldn't decide if it wanted to be a breezy show about bad people behaving ridiculously or a srs bsns character study show about these narcissistic *******s and just split the difference, doing a half assed job of either.

But I will say I found it weirdly watchable even though I kind of hated it. But I wasn't exactly hate watching it either. So that says something, but I'm not sure what. Like I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but if a new season showed up tomorrow I'd probably watch it.

Power gets a lot of love where it counts. Highest viewed episodes of any Starz series. Critics love it after so-so 1st season reviews. La La's love scenes with Tommy have me wondering, how much, if any, that played in her and Carmelo Anthony's separation.

I see Law & Order is doing an anthology starting this Fall.
1st season about the Menendez brothers.

I am in, anything Law & Order can't be bad.

Slavery is illegal in Westeros but that evil institution is very much alive and well in the next project from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

On Wednesday, HBO announced plans for the duo's first post-Thrones project. They will write and executive-produce Confederate, an alternate-timeline drama in which the South successfully seceded from the Union and slavery is not only legal but has evolved with the times. And a new American Civil War looms.

I agree with this. I watched this week and some of the individual bits are hilarious, but the overall flow and tone feels so disjointed. It's like that they wanted to do a mature version of a network comedy, where the comedy is 90% and the drama is 10% and the comedy makes a good counter point to the drama, but instead be 50% drama while still having the show be 90% comedy. I still watched the whole thing and enjoyed parts of it, but I wouldn't recommend anyone else watch it in the same way I'd recommend Friends, How I Met Your Mother (early seasons), Silicon Valley, etc.
