Game of Thrones SPOILER FREE THREAD Game of Thrones SPOILER FREE THREAD

Please don't merge that other thread with this one either. If there is a week-in-advance thread every week because of HBOgo, whatever.

It was just a one off wasn't it?

oh, sure...that is not allowed?

Other than being a slippery slope that will be impossible to control, I think this guy puts it best in his GoT review video (from 3:20ish to 4:30):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H9y-T2AW7Q&t=3m26s

BTW that guy does reviews every week and they're awesome. He's not a book reader so no risk of spoilers as long as you've seen the episode first. But apparently you should avoid the comments.

But I think the people who are so quick to post back story and stuff ITT that some consider nitty are doing exactly what he's talking about. People have made it clear that it's turning them off to the series, or at the least participating in this thread, and I don't blame them.

Episode 7 will be discussed here after it airs this Sunday. As far as I know episode 8 will not be on HBOGO before it airs normally. I don't really get why it's so annoying for people. This seems like the easiest and cleanest way to discuss the show spoiler free for people who don't have HBOGO or who don't want to download the episode as well as those who are willing to.

+1 to not merging. Really don't think it's a big deal if there is an Episode X thread every once in awhile.

One thing I was a bit confused about was why the man who fought for Tyrion volunteered and also why he walks off with him somewhat naturally after he wins the Imp's freedom. I understand they had a bit of rapport, but wasn't he one of Lady Stark's men or did I miss something? Of course there are obvious advantages to winning favor with a Lannister, but the whole thing seemed a tad brushed over.

He was one of Lady Stark's men, but they also made a point of having him notice Tyrion protecting Lady Stark in the ambush. That seems to have won his respect.

Was he (Bronn I think) actually from Riverrun or Winferfell - or just from one of the houses that support Riverrun?

either way, Tyrion did win his trial, so Bronn could have thought issue was instantly settled and there wasn't a problem hanging out with him.

I'll lock the Ep 7 thread once it airs and then we go back to normal. If they keep putting up eps new on HBO GO then maybe we'll have an HBO GO thread or something- I dunno. Clearly these *******s didn't think about moderating message boards when they did this.

I'm now reading book one- I'll probably catch up to the show this week, and then my plan is to watch first, and then read up to that point. I've found it pretty enjoyable.

He was in the inn when Catelynn and Roderick Cassell arrested Tyrion. He wasn't with them before that and he wasn't one of the retainers called upon by her. He just went with them. He is also the guy who accepted Tyrion's money for his room. More about his background has not been revealed on the show IIRC.

It didn't look like they were hanging out to me. It looked like he was leaving whatever duty or obligation he had with the Starks, Winterfell, or whatever and was going away with Tyrion. Again, I understand they had developed some rapport with each other and maybe it isn't entirely unreasonable for him to Champion Tyrion given that and his last name, but it just seemed like a bit of a stretch to me. I don't want to come off as a huge nit about it though, because the whole scene didn't really bother me. I was more just wondering if I missed something that explained why everything unfolds that way.

Ahh that makes more sense now. Thanks.

He's not one of Lady Stark's men, he was one of the men in the bar when Lady Stark called in a favor; they weren't her men, they just helped her because their families have connections with her family.

I don't think anything else has been revealed about the guy who fought for Tyrion and his backstory, but the Lannisters are the most powerful family in the realm and as the episode made clear, "a Lannister pays his debts."

That's what I'm doing (except for me it's my second read of the novel) and it makes both watching the show AND re-reading the book much more enjoyable.

My only problem is I get confused about where I am in the book cuz I'm watching the show. I'm halfway thru book 1.

Been doing the same here. Got the paperback box set for ~$20 on amazon. I just got up to the attack on Ned. I don't plan on slowing down however. I'm sure I will be on book 2 by the time Ep 8 airs in 2 weeks.

Just occurred to me that HBO has made a habit of not airing new shows on holidays weekends. I'm glad that's not the case with GoT though. Don't want to wait 3 weeks to see a new episode.

this is the first time we actually see a shot of Bronn.

And as far as I can tell, he did not lift his sword to Tyrion with everyone else at the end of that scene, and he carried no sigil either.

In episode 5, when they take the bag off Tyrion's head, you can see Bronn sharpening his sword. Then Tyrion talks about his father offering a "handsome reward" and that everyone knows a lannister always pays his debts while the shot focuses on Bronn.

So they really tried to get the point across at least a couple of times that Bronn is in it for the money.

I've been watching a lot of Mad Men recently and as good as the girl who plays Arya is, I would have loved to see Kiernan Shipka (Sally Draper) play her. She would have been great.

If your avatar wasn't so awesome I'd say mean things to you, that post is blasphemy.

I can see this, but I can't see her being better than the chick doing it now. She's so great. I just want to see Shipka in anything else to tell if she's as good as I think she is, or if it's just the general quality of Mad Men that elevates her.
05-26-2011 , 12:42 AM
I dont watch Mad Men so dont know how good she is, but do you realise how much travel someone starring in one show filming in America and another that films in Ireland and Cyprus would have to do; not to mention also being educated and doing other normal kid stuff AND learning how to fight with swords?

Plus the chick doing it now is completely nailing the part.
05-26-2011 , 12:50 AM
I don't realize any of those things, probably it would have been unworkable and she wasn't considered. And for sure Masie is doing a great job. But Shipka is the GOAT child actor, is the exact correct age, fits the role precisely physically and is going to be a real looker in a few years (I know, whydontyouhaveaseatoverthere.jpg). But like Dids said, it's not so much that I'm criticizing the casting of Arya, but rather just really curious about how Shipka would have handled the role.

Also how the **** have you not watched Mad Men, don't you watch everything?
05-26-2011 , 12:54 AM
maybe i need to watch last season of mad men. the kid who plays sally in other seasons was always good (better than some of the adults, lol) but not that good. she must've been fantastic last season then. there's been quite a few outstanding young girl actresses of late for some reason.
05-26-2011 , 12:57 AM
Yeah the last season of Mad Men really demanded way more of Shipka than previous seasons. Also you should watch it because it is the best season of Mad Men by far.

And how could you put off watching it after that season 3 finale?

So, a pretty pale girl "precisely" fits the role of horse-faced, dark, Arya Stark?
