2) They had 20k+ (scout got to 20k before he was captured) and I think it was around 22k or so. He sacrificed 2k, and presumably got a few thousand max from his future father-in-law, so he probably has 15-20k depending on how many he lost in the Jaime ambush. Also I think the whole reason he went after Jaime was the protect Riverrun (Tully's home?) and gain the support of all of their troops, which is probably not insignificant.
3 & 4) no idea where you are getting these numbers. I don't remember it being discussed. I assume most houses have a few k troops at the most, excepting the uber rich Lannisters
I think Tywin gave Ser Gregor (The Mountain) 500 men to go rape and pillage, and burn the Vale (or Riverlands?) as kind of a distraction as well as a big F.U. to the Stark supporters while he regrouped what was left of his army back at Casterly Rock (or somewhere safe).

regarding the ability of houses to raise armies:
Spoiler:
I read somewhere that the house of tyrell would be able to raise even more troops than lannister, but they wouldn't be as well equipped due to not being as flush as Tywin.

Ser Loras Tyrell claimed in that shaving scene that the house of tyrell would support Renly in a war of the throne, but we don't know if that was true, Loras isn't the head of the house afaik.

And the house of Stark raised about 20k on short notice, so house of Baratheon only being able to raise an army of a couple thousand seems v low.

Tywin also seems pretty concerned about the threat from the Baratheon bros, indicating that their respective forces must be of decent size.

If this gets annoying I'll stop but these are insanely funny to me.

when I was reading the book, I misread "dagger under his throat" as if he put it IN his throat.

and the chapter ended like that.

I thought ned was dead for like 150 pages (they work by character paragraphs in different locations). I felt like **** for a while and couldnt believe it.

Then I realized he was alive and felt like yesssssssssjhsfdhfsdajhgsfd.

And then, FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

rewatching episode 7 now, seems pretty clear that Renly and his bf ser Loras Tyrell are gonna try and get help from the House of Tyrell, which is headed by Loras's father. (LF and baldie tell Eddard that Renly fled south with Loras, and that is the way to Highgarden, Tyrell HQ)

Loras's father is almost as rich as Tywin Lanister and may have an even bigger army, so things are gonna get good imo.

this implies that the House of Baratheon is mostly behind Stannis rather than Renly.

I wouldn't be completely sure Renly and Stannis will be on the same side. Probably initially but we know Renly thinks he should be king. I'm assuming they have some role in season 2.
06-24-2011 , 11:33 PM
no, they aren't on the same side.

they are semi-neutral tho, probably not gonna directly battle each other, since both of them are targeting the lannisters firstly and they are brothers.

if they are the last two left they would probably negotiate before fighting each other

Spoiler I guess? Not really, but don't click if you are overly paranoid about minor details "spoiling" things for you.

Spoiler:

Doubt they'll elaborate on it since the only part that is important is that they are loaded, but in addition to the gold mines they loan the realm (ie King) tons of money.
06-24-2011 , 11:38 PM
it's been mentioned on screen that King Robert borrowed a ****load from Tywin
06-24-2011 , 11:38 PM
We have nothing to draw such a conclusion on.

Renly isnt just challenging for the Iron Throne but the house Baratheon itself too. They would remain neutral as long as they both have to fight the Lannisters but they certainly wont be negotiating at any point.
06-24-2011 , 11:45 PM
I'm pretty much assuming that each baratheon bro would strongly prefer that the other bro hold the throne than Joffrey, so much so that each would find this outcome acceptable, and the brothers do not hate each other so both Renly and Stannis will wish to avoid direct bro on bro war.

Not a spoiler, it was mentioned a few times how much the crown owed to the Lannisters. 3 million to Tyrion alone iirc lol.
06-24-2011 , 11:50 PM
really? 3 million to the dwarf alone?

I though it was 3 million total owed to Lannister house
06-24-2011 , 11:53 PM
i think they said 6-7 million total to different people so i doubt it's 3 to tyrion :0
06-24-2011 , 11:54 PM
They said 6 total iirc and 3 to Tyrion alone... lemme queue that scene up

edit: in ep3 i think and i don't have it taped

are you sure it's not Tywin, the head of the Lannisters and father of Jaime, Cersei, and Tyrion?
06-25-2011 , 12:04 AM
Yeah, it is to Tywin.
06-25-2011 , 12:09 AM
No way it's Tyrion.
06-25-2011 , 12:11 AM
That would make more sense. My memory is saying Tyrion but likely because I didn't know who Tywin was at the time and the names sound a bit familiar.
