There were complaints about Phill and gizmo in the past IIRC. Those are just names I remember off the top of my head, not trying to specifically call them out or anything.

There were some issues in the first season with extremely mild "spoilers". Innocuous "speculation" by one or 2 bookreaders(this was completely out of line). Book rankings. Backstory from the books. Pretty sure that's it.
The thread became more strictly moderated and bookreaders were banned from anything but low level commentary. This problem has been solved for over two years.
People just keep on arguing about it, most of the time not even understanding wtf they're arguing about. It's absolutely ridiculous.
So you agree that it happened and that there had to be a crackdown by the mods to limit it.
Indeed it was especially bad in S1 when book readers were going in the TV thread and explaining Theon's entire backstory after the 2nd episode.
There were also some more minor cases with book readers revealing things like "Ros doesn't exist in the books". It seems like a fairly minor bit of book info, but it does tell a TV watcher that her character can't possibly be very important. Book readers would call attention to various scenes in the show hinting that they might have some foreshadowing or future importance. I also remember some cases of people referring to scenes that only happened in the book, not remembering that it didn't happen / wasn't shown in the TV show.
There was never a problem with major "Red Wedding" type spoilers coming from known book readers, but the bits of book info do piss off TV-only viewers.

People ranking the books in the "TV Show Discussion Only" thread was pretty stupid.
Like I said, most of the time book readers can post "low level commentary" and not spoil anything, but it's harder than you might think to not have your comments be influenced by book knowledge. Furthermore, it has been an issue in the past - and all it takes is ONE person to accidentally post book info. And finally, regardless of whether any book info gets posted, the TV show only viewers have to be on their guard against accidental spoilers from overly "helpful" book readers. So the easiest and safest solution is just to say book readers shouldn't post in the TV thread.
Again what is so awful about just posting in the book reader thread?
