His accent still slips through sometimes, but I think it actually works to their benefit, as it further separates him from everyone else on the show.

I'm not sure it's his accent but Littlefinger isn't like convincing as like a human speaking. Tyrion the same thing but even more so. For Tyrion it's like an over-enunciation.

Carcetti should just do his native American accent and it would be fine.

Hence the good luck.

To be honest, I think letting bookreaders ask for permission to post in the other thread was a bad idea. The whole point is that the other thread was ruined by the discussion of book spoilers/bookreaders, not actual spoilers. As long as book-readers continue to post in the other thread I fear that the arguing will continue. Now take your case, you received a ban for posting a spoiler. Even taking that your ban was 100% unjustified and that 100% of your posts in the other thread have been legit, letting you post will likely result in stupid arguments (directly or indirectly as a result of that decision) all over again.

Ironically I've always said that it would be fine to ban all bookreaders because they generally can't keep themselves to making zeroth level comments.

But if I get banned while say Freakin, Phill, and Gizmo get to post.......

Nope SK, everytime I said "BAN EVERYOOOONEEEEE" you said "nah, where's the fun in that?"

No, I've always said that I think that if the show watchers want to ban the bookreaders, that's cool and the gang. But I'm not going to self ban because I do a good job of keeping book stuff out of my posts.

I'm finding this post ambiguous.

Do you really think Gillen did a better accent as Carcetti than as Littlefinger?

Or did you think Carcetti was played by an Amercan actor?

Or do you mean Gillen made Carcetti sound like he was off the reservation?

agree. Also think that if they just banned all book readers that'd be fine, but if they choose to keep some and ban others who have posted nothing book related in 3 seasons then that is incredibly stupid.

In other words this is very likely to be the worst possible "solution"

I thought his American accent was totally fine.

Disagree. Perception trumps reality here. If the presence of book-readers keeps creating ****storms, it really doesn't matter whether the accusations against any single book-reader have merit. Everyone requesting to post in the other thread is part of the problem, imo. ESPECIALLY those involved in previous incidents.

Has anyone noticed that Renly's banner looks like Bullwinkle?

then, as has been said many times before, ban all bookreaders or just those who have caused problems. i have little faith that either of those is going to happen.

And I thought it slipped multiple times, but I don't have a problem with Gillen's Littlefinger voice. Depends on what one is used to, I suppose.

Anybody seen any criticism of Littlefinger's accent from a British source?

I don't think his accent is the problem, I think it's the whispery growl he tries to give LF that hurts his performance. He's trying too hard to be snakey/sinister.

I'm inclined to agree that it's not the accent that's the problem, IF there's a problem. Too cartoony for you in a show that has dragons and giants and dwarves? I find nearly all the characters to be caricatures, so I don't have a problem with it.

BTW 27o, why would this discussion be inappropriate in the other thread?

because you've read the books!

My biggest problem with voices was Jorah in season one. Whether the voices are authentic or not (lol) doesn't matter. It's just whether it sounds good on tv. A few of the voices do not imo.

Might as well say "Because you've got blue eyes!"

There's nothing about having read the books that inherently threatens the integrity of non-bookreader's experience when we're just discussing aspects of the show that have nothing to do with plot.

Sure, but it is all too easy for it to slip into book territory. It happened many times in the old TV thread.

Most book readers think that they can be careful enough to avoid spoilers for the TV crowd, and maybe most can, but there are definitely a few book readers that (accidentally or not) leaked spoilers and book info to the TV only crowd. (Note: I'm talking about known book readers who were leaking info accidentally or not, not just the people who pretend to not be book/wiki readers and intentionally make highly accurate "predictions"). And because of those few people that were bringing book info into the TV thread, all book readers are now (rightfully) under suspicion in the TV thread. It's easier to just say book readers shouldn't post in the TV thread at all.

What is the problem with just discussing things in the book thread, and merely lurking the TV thread?
