I don't see the Game of Thrones fever ending anytime soon. They are probably going to do the series with prime Robert and then the Dunk and Egg stories. Hell, the possibilities are endless. Even a show with the Dawn of Valyria would be nice.

Thanks for clarifying, knew I remembered something like that but didn't know the details.. I would have expected the exact opposite. I thought GRRM would take a more normal book approach with there being a large amount of falling action. Ending the series with a huge amount of climaxes seems more like what hbo would want.

only 13 episodes after this season certainly means they'll be moving pieces pretty close to their end game positions at the end of this year. IE, Dany in Westeros, or at least on her ships?

I'd guess she hooks up with dragon master Tyrion and they sail for Westeros to end the season.

I'd really hoped that Daeny would take KL before the season is over. Daeny in KL Jon in WF Others about to break down the wall.

If Daeny is just arriving in Westeros at end of this season... lol. Mereen nonsense for an entire season and then next season they have to figure out Westeros and the Others? That's stalling a lot now and leaving a lot to be handled later.

grunching, only hafway into ADWD

after watching the latest season, seems like they really advanced and mixed some things up far more than they did in previous seasons.

What do you guys think? howd they handle this season compared to ADWD and from past seasons?

Pleasure,

You are exactly right. This last season of the show was the worst IMO.

As they've gotten closer to the endgame they've diverged from the books more and more. Necessary since the show has an expiration date and who knows how long grrm will fart around for.

yeah i figured. Im saddened that the show will reveal the ending of the series and not the book

They won't necessarily follow the same arc now. It's possible that they totally diverge.

I don't think George even knows exactly what he wants for the ending. When he originally planned the series it was going to be 3 books. But as time goes on he is farting around more and more ever since the end of ASOS. He doesn't even seem like he's interested in the endgame. The books are so superior to the show, after the RW at least, that I don't think it will spoil too much. If the book series ever finishes it will be the nuts.

I would be surprised if GRRM doesn't know how he intends the story to end. He just doesn't know how to get there. He seems to keep adding story arcs to get everything explained and consistent and then changes his mind and starts over again. He is more likely to add another book than finishing the whole story.

Season 5 did a good job with King's Landing, everything else was worse. Pretty much the same for all seasons.

Pretty sure GRRM knows exactly how he wants the major characters to end, but now he's got the many many minor characters to deal with.

Think the 10 episode season was fine early on in the first season or 2 with not many characters to follow but now there is so much going on, it will be hard to fit everything in without feeling rushed.

Will be easier though if separate character arcs combine, could Theon, Sansa, Jon, Davos, Red woman and possibly Bran all combine into one group? Just as Dany and Tyrion get together they separate again, but for how long? Arya is still out on her own for foreseeable future. Which leaves Kings landing with Jamie and Cersei vs Faith. So perhaps wont be too bad by the end of season 6.

He's kind of said this in not so many words. The ending has been told to the show runners and i highly doubt that ending is much different then the books.
Whats curious about that is the story lines we know arent in the show and what bearing that now has.

I really doubt the resolutions of the major storylines will be much different in the 2 mediums. or any different. Tyrion, Jon, Dany, the Starks, the Lannisters, the White Walkers, all end up in basically the same spots.

all the subplot guys, I think bets are off

Right but it also means Aegon in the books is a worthless plot line in as much as he wont ascend the throne.
Of all the other sub plots and characters that we should care about that is the one that could have the most interesting spin.

Recently finished a re-read of ASOIAF to prepare my body for S6. To anyone contemplating reading the books for a second time: It was absolutely worth it! Obv I watch the show, but I also watch a decent amount of fan theory channels (Alt Shift X is the bomb imo) so this time around I had a much richer experience as I knew who all of the characters were and in what ways they were connected.

I actually read the Cersei POV chapters from AFFC and ADOD again after I finished. Man her book character is sooooo much better. Also Jamie book GOAT; but that pretty much goes without saying.

I will admit to skipping Dany POV from post Dragon hatch to Drogon ex machina. Ain't nobody got time for that. (I did sneak in Ser Barriston intro and Astapor pwnage)

I hadn't even thought of this.

I could probably list 50 easy spin off ideas off the top of my head that they could get others to write. Hey they can call them non-canon if they want.

Yeah GoT is basically Harry Potter for adults. I think there's several ideas for movies and spinoff shows that will probably happen because of trust in the #brand.

Spoiler:
Rory McCann's wiki page lists him as in the "recurring" role of Sandor "The Hound" Clegane in 2016

How are you defining "adults" here?
