I know this might get some mixed opinions but is there any chance you all can discuss the sample chapter stuff in spoilers?

Some of us might not want to see any of it until the books actually come out.

I think we need to ban everyone who's read the preview chapters.
even if they don't discuss what they've read their discussions of the first 5 books will be influenced by their new knowledge.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Theon/Arianne are no longer there but I'm sure a little googling would find them.

Mercy chapter:
Spoiler:
That was awesome. The play and the Lommy callback were both great.

no spoilers on the new chapters seriously

the book isnt out, most people do not want to read random lines from random places in the next book out of context.

Well I think he has a point and don't think we should discuss these chapters here now that I think about it.

So where do we go for those of us who have read the 5 books but don't want to read random snippets of the next book?

Every tv thread frowns upon next week's preview discussion so there's absolutely no way that gobo is right in this matter.

Isn't this what spoiler boxes are for? I don't see the problem with using spoilers and clearly marking what they are.

Honestly, having someone try to mod that other thread that hasn't read the books was a bad idea. That's not really 27o's fault.
It's a spoiler because the information that leads to the conclusion is almost entirely only in the books. They consider anything from the books to be spoilers, including any history and background stuff. It may not be a proven theory yet, but the evidence for it is from the books (and basically everyone agrees on it).

27offsuit, you are clearly effectively spoilering people when you advertise that X person might or might not be posting spoilers. This is not a bookreader point of view, it's pretty straightforward. I know you want to be validated that you're getting this cluster**** in order, but you really need to keep it low key when you deal with possible spoilers.

Example:

RandomTroll, "I think Darth Vader might be Luke's father!"

RandomDude, "What? What a stupid theory. Obi Wan explicitly said that Darth Vader KILLED Anakin."

27offsuit, "Guys, I banned AlexM because he's spoilered."

RandomDude, "Wait, what? So that means that what I thought was just a stupid theory is actually a spoiler, and 27offsuit just confirmed it? NOW I'm spoiled when I actually wasn't before."

Luckily, most bookreaders who try to pretend they aren't and spoiler people are at least clever enough to mix in a good amount of false guesses, so people won't necessarily know what you've spoiled them about, but it all adds up.

On that note, perhaps it's time to mention that it takes a pretty mentally disturbed person to get validation out of pretending to look smart in their speculation when they're really just using spoilers. I mean seriously, what do people even get out of that behavior? Yay, X person on the Internet thinks I'm clever even though I know I'm really not. Do people like this really value other people's opinions of fake Internet accounts more than they value their opinion of themselves? That's just sad.

I could understand if the person was just a psychopath and got their kicks from hurting people, but the whole mixing spoilers with false information to try to pretend like you're clever when you know you're not is just dumb.
