Especially the one with Ned and the King. Ned lost his honor after being married only a couple of years? The he goes out of his way to protect his mistress's identity ("you never told anyone what she looked like" ... "nor will I"), and on top of it all, he brings the bastard home to Cat knowing she'll go ape **** over him.

I'm practically convinced that Jon's mother is Ned's sister. There was a ton of discussion about this in the big thread. The reason I believe it is because of how Raegar Targaryen is described with contradiction. We hear stories about how he kidnapped Ned's sister, and even King Robert bitches about how she belonged with him. But then later on in S3, Barriston Selmy calls Raegar "the nicest guy he ever knew." And we all know how honorable Selmy is. Plus, there's no motive for him to be lying in that context.

I don't think Ned's sister was kidnapped. I think they ran off together and had Jon together.

Walder Frey has something coming to him, no?
The Mountain should be caught up with soon.
Isn't Rickon on his way to stay with people who are no longer Stark bannermen?

Non Death Pool Picks:
Bran / Hodor
Jon Snow
Dany
Tywin
Jaime
Samwell

skinny: that sounded like the highlight of the episode to me as well. i originally thought it would involve brienne but i think this way makes more sense.

i hope no one gets spoilered but im not going to help police a thread i cant post in.

still dont think anyone could come to r l j conclusion purely from the show.

i haven't read the other thread much, but i think the R+L=J theory has been kicked around there for a while now. it's not possible for a show watcher to come into that conclusion, but since someone has introduced it into the discussion, people will perpetuate the idea
Game of Thrones Bookreader Thread: ***TV SPOILERS ITT*** Quote

My guess is the people posting the RL=J theory over there are show watchers only who were inadvertently spoiled without their knowledge by asshats posting in their threads previously.

You guys are ridiculous. It's really not that hard to come up with the R+L=J theory from the show alone. All I can see from that guys post is that he is probably one of the more obsessive viewers.

Disagree. I just finished re watching all 3 seasons with my wife. Beforehand I semi-spoilered her that there's a mystery surround Jon's parents. We watched specifically looking for clues of this nature. There are a few as mentioned by that poster but they're few and spread out. Even knowing the truth it's s big leap I feel to jump to R+L=J. My wife certainly didn't even with some careful nudging in the right direction.

no. it's not possible.

come on, whip out your occam's razor for a bit here.

the obvious explanation is that sometime during the past three seasons, some "show watcher" "speculated" this idea of R+L=J into the thread. and then, because it's the best solution for the question of Jon's parents, it's lived on.

by the end of this season they'll probably know as much as we do about R + L = J, who gives a ****.
Game of Thrones Bookreader Thread: ***TV SPOILERS ITT*** Quote

lol no. almost all the r l j stuff happens in s1. on the show its pretty much just a few throw away lines. in the books theres a ton more foreshadowing because we can be inside neds head and also had decades worth of nerds nerding out.

so you think they are going to keep show watchers in the dark until the reveal? that doesn't make any sense. what I mean is: if it's really true, they'll find a way to give more hints throughout this season. they don't like showing ambigous things for people's interpretation.
s04e01 spoiler
Spoiler:
they showed renly and loras ****ing a lot and will do the same to oberyn just to say he also likes men ffs.

Yeah that's probably it.

But all anyone needs to work out R+L=J is:

Ned is the most honourable dude ever so it's probably not his kid yet he is set on raising Jon like he is his son. Therefore it must be one of his siblings kids.

Robert went to war after Rhaegar kidnapped Lyanna and has a hate boner for all things Targ which provides an explanation for why Ned must keep Jon's true identity a secret.

By Barristan's account Rhaegar is not a rapey kidnapper but an all around stand up guy.

Any obsessive show watcher can easily put those things together and work out that Jon is most like the spawn of Rhaegar and Lyanna. It's not some super cryptic secret that is impossible to work out without it being spelled out.

those are some very very unlikely threads to connect. especially when the show's Jon storyline has made no indication whatsoever that Ned isn't his father. it's taken as a given that he's an ordinary bastard.

you're right that it's not literally impossible, just incredibly unlikely. i'd like to hear if some show watcher somewhere has actually honestly reached that conclusion on their own?

I think Doggz put it mostly together and imo he is a very credible non book reader.

And the evidence includes that Ned doesn't directly reference him as son in the show rather that he is of his blood and he also avoids talking to Jon about his mother. He is obviously very uncomfortable and unwilling to talk much about Jon's mother in his talk with Robert on the King's Road. Plus his defining characteristic is his honour and the only time we are shown him going against that is to protect his family (confessing his crimes to save his Arya and Sansa). Thus the viewer can infer that he will compromise his honour when it comes to protecting family but is highly unlikely to have dishonoured his marriage.
