Yeah this seems like it would have been much better. This season really should have been the best season of the show but they've failed to do the source material justice so far imo.

Yeah, I probably had too high of hopes for this season. I'm still enjoying the show, in spite of a few cringe-worthy moments. There have been bright spots as well, however.

O vs. M, battle at the wall, and gg Tywin/Shae could still save the season for me.

Re: Gizmo, I have to agree with most of those points. I don't think Mel has been depicted very poorly, however. Pretty much on par with the bulk of the book>show character adaptations.

She does morally ambiguous things, yes, but she is not as straight twirly mustache evil as she is in the show.
OTOH, Cersei is a lot less crazy and evil on the show.

For Theon to kill Balon would be such a radical departure from the books that I would probably quit watching.

This is why wiki readers suck. Can't even give good spoilers.

Better:

Arya becomes a beggar after becoming severly disfigured due to a beating from her drunken father.

Bran becomes a tree and talks to Theon.

Tyrion and Jorah take up acting to try and impress Khaleesi.

The Boltons eat a few Freys on accident.

lol, I just posted a random musing I had about ASOS and it skyrocketed to the top of /r/asoiaf in like half an hour.

"Nothing major, I just love how rereads can illuminate things.
In ASOS, when Varys first poses the riddle about power, he doesn't drop the answer right away and Tyrion and Shae both answer. Shae almost immediately answers that the rich man is who the sellsword listens to. The riddle is interesting because it's basically a great way to figure out what someone's philosophy is like. Shae believes that rich people are who hold all the power, so she assumes the rich man is the one who wins. Later on, when Tyrion is imprisoned and obviously has no money (or power), she goes to the richest people she knows. (Cersei/Tywin)
Makes me think if Varys poses this riddle towards more people in a way to learn about their motivations/philosophies towards power."

I assume she'll start acting crazier after Tyrion kills Tywin.
