Jon is totally meh but he is still possibly the best character in that top 5

Tyrion is also better than John, even though John's ADWD chapters were better

I loved tyrion until ASOS, after he killed tywin he became such an emo character

I don't disagree but John Snow is so meh for so long before he gets interesting.

its pretty clear grrm had no idea what to do with tyrions character. his whole storyline in adwd makes no sense... illyrio cant figure out a safer way for them to travel? yeah ok. pretty sure tyrion was just to pop up again in 5 years with dany but now grrm has to figure out what to do with him in the meantime.

That's what I love about reading the other thread: I want to see how the people having the "characters have to fulfill there purpose before they are killed" conversation react to the Viper.

Pretty sure I posted this, but might as well post it again. This is her after asking being asked what the most memorable thing of the series would be or something along those lines:

This. If you think about it, oberyn is pretty much useless after he gets his revenge. This is what he lived for since elia's death. Grrm already says he kills his characters when the story needs to, and that was the case. I'd rather have him dead like that than have him slowly getting less and less interesting like tyrion got. It was a win win situation imo. He gave us an amazing character and killed him right when he needed to.
And I agree with the guy you replied to, i love the current talk in the other thread.

interesting thread. looks like grrm is not rushing to end twow because he thinks HBO will wait for him, even though it's obvious HBO wont. he says they'll have to do more than 8 seasons, but it's in the contract that they'll end it in 8.

so that means that it's very likely that show watchers will have the ending before book readers.

brace yourselves, "game of thrones TWOW - book readers (NO SPOILERS)" is coming.

Where GRRM talks about hoping that the show gets extended/delayed to fit his schedule. http://www.vanityfair.com/vf-hollywo...rtin-interview

Doubt that's going to happen, but the rest of the article is pretty good.

I'm torn about what to think of his comments in that interview. On one hand I think GRRM is too smart to actually believe ADWD and AFFC is 3 seasons worth of material and he's just saying things for the interviewer, and on the other hand it's GRRM.

Also this statement kind of surprised me: You signal the ambiguity early on when Ned beheads the ranger but he’s in the wrong. It’s not clearcut.

I didn't think Ned was in the wrong at all. Yeah we got to see what Gared saw that caused him to flee, but that doesn't mean he's not deserting. Thought it was a bit strange and GRRM just went with it, so maybe he's correct.

I don't think grrm would want to impose his vision on a reader's interpretation.

I think it's possible they might stall a year if it looks like he's actually almost done, but that doesn't seem very likely.

It's possible they do a Breaking Bad/Mad Men and make the final season 16 episodes and split it over 2 years. Have the book come out in between the two halves.

I'm personally hoping he's writing both TWOW and ADOS at the same time, and will announce release dates for both simultaneously, one in '15 or '16 and one in '16/'17.

If he isn't, there's still hope for getting ADOS out before the show catches up, but you need to get 2 seasons out of AFFC and ADWD combined (seems like a stretch), and 2 out of TWOW.

'14 - ASOS #2
'15 - AFFC/ADWD #1
'16 - AFFC/ADWD #2

Despite the page count, it's really hard to imagine them getting 3 seasons out of those two books, which means

'17 - TWOW #1
'18 - TWOW #2

That's best case. If it happens, GRRM has until spring '19 to publish ADOS, which if he starts in '15 seems possible, if not likely given his track record.

Edit: Note this calls for at least 9 seasons which is not what the show runners are calling for.
