What was wrong with the old thread exactly? It would be nice to have that open so we could quote old theories/posts. We've never had a new thread for a new season before.

Why was this change needed? The other thread was amazing - one of the best TV threads in all of 2+2. This is a very disappointing development that seems to have been done for no reason and with no explanation.

I vote for reopening the original book reader thread and building on that - while keeping the toxic meta that was brought only recently OUT. if there were problems in the other show-watcher thread, those should be dealt with there - it has nothing to do with this.

You can still quote the old thread.

At the very least that guy has googled "Jon Snows parents." There's no possible way from only watching the show that you could come to the conclusion that R+L=J. There isn't even the smallest hint of it.

If he wasn't spoiled before, he is now. You know, with his post being deleted and all. I see the guy isn't banned though.

I'm pretty sure the R+L=J had already been theorized by some of the tv watchers.

Hints of it include:

- Ned being the most honourable dude around.
- Ned tells Jon "You don't have my name,but you have my blood"
- Barristan telling Dany that Rhaegar was one of the best men he ever knew.
- The Robert and Ned scene in the Winterfell crypts
- If we believe that Ned is not capable of dishonour then we know he lies to Robert on the King's Road about Jon's mother.

An astute watcher would be capable of picking up on that there is some sort of mystery about Jon's parentage. They could put together that because Ned is so protective of the secret and that Jon has Stark blood that he must be the son of Brandon, Benjen or Lyanna which leads to speculation that it is most likely R+L, by rape or otherwise.

So yeah I don't think it is a stretch at all that a thread full of intelligent people could piece together a theory like this.

imo: just reopen the book thread. you can keep the new tv thread with the rule of no bookreaders but no reason to do anything to the book thread.

What difference does it make whether it's an old thread or new thread? Just roll with it.

I, for one, welcome the new overlords in the non-bookreader thread. When I used to lurk there (I'll probably lurk again when the season starts) it's was perpetually being ruined by bookreader vs non-bookreader rubbish. It'll probably be better with a zero-tolerance policy for spoilers.

zero tolerance policy should have been put to place ages ago. i still don't understand why so many bookreaders posted there. i never did (because i've read the books)
