List needs more Daario Naharis at the bottom, both of them lol. Also, I'd put first season Jaime as maybe the absolute bottom (seriously, rewatch the season before you disagree), but he got much, much better as the show went on.

I honestly don't know if that list is best to worst or worst to best.

Old Arya (I assume that's a joke) tips it off. If anything, the list just made me think the show generally did an excellent job casting.

the show did generally do an excellent job of casting, especially considering that some characters are so hard to cast, and that people have such strong opinions about the characters.

little kid arya: was full of mischief and rebellion and courage and charisma. and the little kid pulled it off great!

adult arya: is supposed to be an elite warrior, so elite that she borders on superhero. i just didn't buy that this actress could be an elite warrior

bronn: he's ok as long as he doesn't have to do anything physical. but omfg, watch him in the fight scenes, the guy can barely move. it looks like he has two broken legs and two broken arms. it's absurd.

joffrey: this kid just pulls it off amazingly. he is so ****ing baselessly arrogant! spoiled and snivelling and offensive! ugh!!! but he's also funny, which i think really adds to the character.

im rewatching game of thrones, and i made it to season 8. lol so hard at this season

im actually really enjoying it though. when you go into it having incredibly low expectations, it's actually not that bad... i mean at least there are a lot of good parts. and you have to just get over the absurd the character choices, plot twists, and lol writing

part of the joy comes from thinking how much everyone hated it. it's hard to remember how huge this show was. like people all over the world were obsessed with it, and how great it was, and eagerly awaiting the final season lmao.. but it was a cultural phenomenon like no other tv show has ever even come close to. and then the disappointment and the rage at how shitty it was lmao

and i just imagine the writers, directors, actors, everyone in the show, thinking how the world was going to love season 8 just like all the other seasons. like they are working on the show and thinking "wow! people are going to love this! we are so great!" and then when she show comes out, and people see it, and all of our reactions lol

I remember seeing a lot of clips of the actors where it was clear they had to support their project, but they knew it was hot garbage.

oh yeah, good point. i totally forgot about that.

my guess is that still plenty of them thought it would be received well, just like all the other episodes.

and even the ones who thought it was ****, still probably thought there was a good chance people still loved it anyway.

I think the first 2 episodes of s8 are fine.

Some nice dialogue and character building moments.

Long Night couldn't see ****

And the 3 episodes that followed are the worst in the series imo

All it had to do was not suck for the finale and it failed miserably.

Should have developed the Faegon character starting season 5.

If he isn't, there's still hope for getting ADOS out before the show catches up, but you need to get 2 seasons out of AFFC and ADWD combined (seems like a stretch), and 2 out of TWOW.

'14 - ASOS #2
'15 - AFFC/ADWD #1
'16 - AFFC/ADWD #2

Despite the page count, it's really hard to imagine them getting 3 seasons out of those two books, which means

'17 - TWOW #1
'18 - TWOW #2

That's best case. If it happens, GRRM has until spring '19 to publish ADOS, which if he starts in '15 seems possible, if not likely given his track record.

Edit: Note this calls for at least 9 seasons which is not what the show runners are calling for.
Was looking for something I thought I remembered from this thread, and found this post of mine from Mar '14. Kinda funny!

since this video came out a couple years ago they wrote & produced a crappy netflix movie "metal lords" and produced benioff's wife's netflix show "the chair", which was canceled after 1 season. benioff also co-wrote the will smith flop "gemini man" (net loss estimated to be $111.1 million). very solid body of work since got ended in 2019 lol

they have another netflix show coming out next year ... pretty funny that they're already back to adapting someone else's fantasy/sci-fi book

i remember pretty early on ppl asking about the patterns that the walkers were making with the corpses and d&d were like "idk, we'll figure it out later", and then later were like "spiral patterns are common and look kool (???)". sums up so much about the season 6-8 writing; kool looking and sounding stuff that means nothing

can't believe that every project they've worked on has been criticized for having poor writing...

season 8 nearly killed this property, but i guess enough time has passed, and now it seems like hbo is finally getting around to being the game of thrones network. here's a rundown of all the projects, best i can tell

in production

- season 2 of house of the dragon will probably air starting in june 2024. 8 episodes

- the dunc & aeg show appears to have been green-lit, with filming to begin this year? looks like they're aiming for season 1 to be on the air towards the end of 2025. think it'll be called the hedge knight. 6 episodes

development stage

- bloodmoon. this is old news, but i just heard about a lot of it. think it's been in the news recently because some pictures of naomi watts on their new casterly rock set (which actually looks pretty cool) have surfaced. this bronze age of heroes long night prequel series was supposed to be the original follow up to game of thrones back in 2019/20 or whatever, but it sounds like the idea was weird and bad, and their $35m(!?) pilot sucked, and got's ending left the audience sour, so the new hbo president pulled the plug on this thing. hope the pilot gets released at some point though, and the original one for game of thrones. would be fun to see how bad they are

- unnamed jon snow show. seems like they've tried to get this going a couple times, but it's officially back on the shelf now. wouldn't be surprised if they take another run at this down the line. one of many ideas they seem to be kicking around constantly

- unnamed targaryen conquest project, from aegon i to jaehaerys i. this could begin with an aegon's conquest movie. then season 1 on aegon's reign / fighting dorne, season 2 on aenys, season 3 maegor, season 4 jaehaerys. or they could all be movies. still in the pitch phase, but this seems to be the new project being pushed forward ahead of the others

yeah thats what everyone says, that the characters and stories are great. also great for tv in the sense that it could be cheaper and easier than the other got stuff
(less sfx and smaller cast, at least in the beginning)

to those that have read the released novellas: would you expect subsequent seasons to be more episodes? i heard that the hedge knight doesn't have a lot of meat, so it makes sense they're going with only 6 eps, but are the others bigger in size and scope?

Snow is dead most likely.

Just make a sequel to GOT.

what do you think of making aegon's conquest a movie? i remember you saying before that you thought it was a bad idea for a show because it's just them going around wrecking everybody, but maybe there's enough conflict and drama for it to work as a film?

have they said that the jon snow thing is dead for good? i took it as a for now thing, unnecessary because they have all this other stuff going. the fact they keep coming back to it makes me think there's something there, and i think they def want something that addresses how badly got ended directly, maybe fix it a little after the fact. plus yeah you might as well fold in the arya sailing around idea since they're both sequels in the same time period. feel like they can kind of pick this idea up whenever, just say there's been a time jump where nothing much happened and carry on. coming up with a good idea for the series is the hard part lol
(but i guess grrm has a few, some dream of spring stuff)
