So is there anything the show can do in the final episode to redeem itself? Right now I feel like with a great finale, the best it could rate in my eyes would be somewhere around 6/10, and certainly it could be worse

episode 3 seems to be where it all went wrong: episode 1, the general consensus seemed to be that it was slow, but fans gave it a pass as a "place setting" episode; episode 2 was a "build-up" episode, and everybody loved the Jamie/Brienne scene, with a number of fans calling it the best scene of the entire series; and then episode 3 happened and it has been straight downhill from there

Dispatching the NK in the manner that they did while leaving Bran to dropping cryptic one liners was a huge mistake -- certainly the show runners knew there were thousands of fan theories hanging in the balance and they failed to pay any of them off

I wonder, did they hold back on revealing too much about the Night King because the upcoming prequel is going to be set during the Long Night, when the White Walkers first appeared?

I don't think it will happen, but as I said before, a good twist that shows Bran as the bad guy would be a satisfying ending (at least for me)....reveal that he whispered in Dani's ear while she sat atop the dragon, and when everything is done, cut to the final scene of Bran sitting on the throne and using his powers to run things the way he wants

Wrong thread. Sorry.
Best ending would be Bran waking up from his fall in the first episode.

At this point the only way they save it for me is an ending I absolutely didn't see coming, that makes sense. Give me some sort of jaw dropper, and maaaaaaybe I'm there.

I just think they're gonna kill off a bunch of people (all the people?) and try another version of the red wedding. Only it'll make very little sense and we'll just all be pissed.

Wait nobody has even posted here since the finale was aired?

I mean... yeah... makes sense

I greatly enjoyed the amount of screen time Edmund Tully got and wish he had gotten more. That's about the only positive I can see.

it was better than last week.

feels like we got to the place where GRRM wants to get to but with like 5% of the explanation.

I thought the first half was great, 2nd half boring

I agree with those opinions that this is the ending GRRM is headed toward, and i think it mostly sucks

I'd rate the season as a whole 6/10, with episode 4 being the worst

Most ridiculous scene from last night: The man on trial and on the verge of being executed tells the future leaders of Westeros how to bring in the new government -- ridiculous!

The Jon/Dany ending is going to be more or less straight out of the books, including Jon going back to the Wall. I wouldn't be surprised if Sansa's ending is the same. Other than that I think it's all up for grabs. I can't figure out if King Bran has any basis in the books or not. He would make some sense as a figurehead, if it were set up better.

Let me be (the only one?) who liked the final season. Partly because its over and we finally got some closure. Partly because it was enjoyable to see pontificating pretentious douchebags ripping their hair out over "bad writing". And because seasons 2 through 7 sucked so damn bad. This story just doesn't translate well to the screen. Especially when the final books have not even been written.

GRRM can suck a dick in hell for all eternity as far as I am concerned. Season one was a spectacular season of television. It sucked me in and I had to find out what happened next. So I ran out and read the books but unfortunately they weren't all done yet and the story seemed no closer to conclusion than when I began. The first 3 books were very good. Then the last two sucked. GRRM is a great world builder but a really lousy storyteller. He went off on tangents of tangents of tangents. Kept taking us to new worlds and introducing new characters without really telling the story. It became a very confusing mess. This just does not translate to film and also makes for lousy reading.

I have no issues how any characters ended up. So I am glad it is over, I am glad we got some conclusions and I am glad the fanboys hated it

Does Jaime's legacy go from Kingslayer to Kingmaker since he was responsible for Brans journey?

That at least isn't going to be in the books. Tyrion is going to be a villain.

I think Dany burning KL is definitely in GRRMs plans. I think his intended Jon/Dany arc is somewhat comparable to what the show gave us. Then they cut to black and the rest of the episode was just trying to tie up loose ends efficiently.

Show basically cut these elements / left them unspoiled for GRRM to potentially finish:
Bran/Weirwood/3ER/Cotf/White walkers/Red God/Arya and the faceless men.

For example I really don't think Arya will kill the NK or end the WWs. So what important kill does she get? Its a butterfly effect that results in a completely different ending. If we get a book ending I expect it'll be mostly unrecognizable from the show ending.

At risk of repeating myself, I think one of the biggest disappointments this season was the lack of payoff behind the NK and Bran's powers -- hundreds of fan theories out there, and I don't think a single one came through (unless someone had NK is after Bran to erase world history and Arya leaps from out of nowhere to stab the NK to death, the end)....I got sucked into these theories after the door episode, for god's sake I tried to wrap my mind around the time travel closed loop ideas, and all for nothing....

I do think there is a possibility the writers decided to hold back on revealing too much about the White Walkers since the prequel series is supposed to take place during the first invasion of the WWs -- well, kiss my ass with that

George definitely would have a payoff planned with the weirwood bran stuff. show just couldn't translate it to screen and it got cut. that's why I say we still have huge unspoiled plotlines... but will GRRM ever finish them? prob not
