Deleted scene was great. Should have made the cut.

Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo) jumping on stage at the panel, unplanned, and kissing Emilia Clarke was hilarious, as was her reaction.

Tywin scene was definitely a bit weird. With the stag he's surrounded by his entire camp and hunting is considered a very high brow thing to do, not so much with fishing. They should have some Lannister guards around or something.

Pycelle only seems to have one outfit, and it felt really out of place when I saw it outside. Also Pycelle has a million opportunities to contact Tywin without having to go outside... especially when he's trying his feeble old man routine... The scene doesn't really add much and is definitely out of place.

Not sure who he's playing. Looks like he could be Doran Martell or someone like Cotter Pyke.

Actually in the picture in that article he looks Frey-ish. Ryman or someone maybe?
This guy looks like he'd be a good Doran Martell. Is the Red Viper cast yet?

loved the tywin/pycelle scene.

idk, I think all the deleted scenes have very much deserved to be omitted from the show.

I'm just going to go ahead and grunch because I'll be damned if I'm going to read 12k+ posts.

I'm just now reading the books (I'm on the fifth). Generally speaking, I tend to find watching shows/movies after I've already read the books disappointing, although when it's done well I enjoy it. It's not being spoiled that bothers me (I rewatch/reread stuff all the time, obviously every time I do so I'm already spoiled as to major events), it's when they take what I consider to be a very good book and deviate so much from the source material that it...well, it sucks. I understand some deviations are usually necessary, but I really hate it when the show/movie deviates grossly from the source (like the ending of Hannibal, for example).

So that being my general feelings, is it worth it for me to watch GoT now that I've read the books and am enjoying them a great deal?

have you ever watched a GoT episode or did you wait until you finished the books?
anyways, yes.

I've never seen an episode, no.

I didn't really deliberately set out to read the books before checking out the show, I just bought the books to read on a trip after deciding I should probably check out this whole Game of Thrones thing.

Definitely. It's hard to imagine a better adaption.

Edit: Not saying everything is perfect, but they've kept to the spirit of the books and created an awesome show.

The one thing you need to get used to with the transition is the switch from first person perspectives. I did it the same way you did and it bothered me when scenes between non-narrator characters were occasionally used to grunch, but it's ultimately a needed device given the time limitations the TV show faced. I'd give the show an 8.5/10 and have really enjoyed seeing major events come to life.

Sgt, I read the books before I watched too. There are quite a few changes from the books, but they are overwhelmingly for the better. I can only think of a few that were for the worse. The show is better than the books imo.

This might be the only time I've ever liked the tv show/movie better than the book. Shawshank is the only other adaptation that I can think of that I thought was as good as the book.

Bolded goes too far imo.

Well the general opinion so far is that the show is worthwhile so I'll start watching after I finish this book unless I start hearing otherwise between now and then.

Thanks guys.

books are easily better. Season 1 & book 1 are the closest in both adaptation and quality. Book 2 >> season 2, and I guess we can't compare s3 to book 3 yet.

Show is great though, for a show. I rarely think that tv adaptations are better than the source material, so it's not a fair comparison to make anyways. Game of thrones is still one of the best shows on tv right now.

Shawshank is my favorite adaptation, with Stand by me being close behind. Both are from King's book of novellas, 'Different Seasons'. It also had Apt Pupil and I'd highly recommend reading it.

I am surprised people find it controversial to say the show is better than the books overall.

That said I could easily flip that opinion in a couple years. I still have serious concerns about them finishing this entire saga in seven seasons. That puts us nearly at the half way point which is pretty scary given it means they will have to hack up the books to the point that great stuff undoubtedly has to be skipped
07-22-2013 , 09:15 PM
book 1-2-3 > show 1-2-3

both are amazing but they cant match the books.
07-22-2013 , 09:27 PM
No way. Shows better.
07-22-2013 , 11:32 PM
Books > show, for me.

Blade Runner. I'm really not a big nit when it comes to adaptations having to be accurate to the source material, I just want it to be good.
