The show is pretty good.

The cop story is a little boring. The dude lacks development.

I'm really liking it so far, and am blown away by how good it looks.

My only very minor quibble is Holden seems super young to me, but that might just be me getting a different impression from the books.

Gave the first four eps a rewatch. Better the second time around as I picked up on more stuff than I did the first time.

forced myself to watch 2nd ep.. super boring. 4 episodes in, "yeah ok".
..prolly gonna end up being my favourite TV-series ever. 2nd season is pretty much locked to be the last

I agree...Holden is at least 35, right?

Re: The Expanse- Basic Cable Game of Thrones in Space

do you have to read the books to fully appreciate/get this? it seems right up my alley (love love love firefly/BSG) but through 2 episodes it seems kinda slow & whatever to me and I don't really know what's going on lol

I never read the books and I like this so far, but if you're only through 2 episodes so far, yeah, you have no idea what's going on. Watch episodes 3 & 4.

It's a long setup.

Seems right, but I'm just going by how old the character "seems" in the books. He just sounds older to me.

To be fair, a lot of the story is based on no one knowing what's going on.

I figured around that. He always came off a bit of a gnarled old vet to me. It doesn't help that actor has a babyface. Without the facial hair, I'm sure he could pull off playing a ~20yr old.

First episode was meh. Then it got a bit better. Then third and fourth it was actually very good scifi. Really like this show, potential to be the best scifi tv show since BSG?

I watched all 4 last night with my brother. Thought it was decent but quite a few things aren't explained very well. I'd be surprised if it gets past season two, but it'd be a pleasant surprise.

It seems like they aged all the characters down. Alex is described as a balding pudgy mid-life crisis guy who retired from the Martian Navy and then had his marriage collapse(spoilers, I guess, but gtfo), so in the books he's got to be pushing 50.

And Naomi's backstory is definitely more like she's 35 than 25. It's possible that they are just gonna change the backstories for these characters.

Re: The Expanse- Basic Cable Game of Thrones in Space

Just researched the first four episodes with my GF. She loved Battlestar G. And she though this was very good.

As a book reader, it was much better on the 2nd watch than the first, because I wasn't comparing it to the books this time.

Really good show.

In. Watched the first 4 episodes (Ep 4 was great). Have not read the books.

I really like that the tension and escalation was imminent from the start. Very encouraging.

Re: The Expanse- Basic Cable Game of Thrones in Space

Very promising start. Have really needed some quality sci-fi in my life. Tempted to read the books but it's probably just better to pick up some other quality series and watch this going in fresh. Would probably enjoy game of thrones more if I hadn't read the books so this is a opportunity to do it the other way around.

Re: The Expanse- Basic Cable Game of Thrones in Space

Watched episode 5 today after binging on 1-4 last weekend.

I feel like things have slowed down a bit. The first episodes had a lot of world building/discovery and episode 4 was exciting due to the action. Epsiode 5 seems more like a transition.

Quit half way through ep 3.

Show's aesthetics are good, but that's about it.

Syfy cheese is just too strong in every show, don't know how they always do that. Must be all the Canadians.

Pretty close to quitting myself. I want to like this, I really do. It's just too boring, and I really don't care about anyone on this show. I'll keep trying for a couple more weeks.

Yeah I thought e5 was weak. If you guys have come this far stick out for the last 5 episodes. **** should really get interesting real soon.

Re: The Expanse- Basic Cable Game of Thrones in Space

I was stoked for a new episode after several weeks wait - ep5 was kinda slow, but still I enjoyed it. Episode 4 still the standout for me. Not close to quitting, this is very solid imo and obviously setting the stage a lot in these early episodes.
