i never liked the character alex. i wish they took firing the actor as a positive, given him a compelling death and improved the show going in a new direction

but instead it seems they just sucked lol

Yeah, unfortunately I think they're drawing almost dead to bring everything to a completely satisfactory ending with only four remaining episodes.

there's something like 100 hours of book left lol... so yeah i don't think they're gonna do it in 4 episodes.

the expanse books total over 5000 pages lol 62 episodes

song of ice and fire(game of thrones) is 4200 pages, but last book is unwritten

73 episodes

I read the first couple of books then stopped to wait for them to be finished. Haven't watched any of the TV show. I plan to do both, already have all the books loaded onto the kindle. Any thoughts on which one I should partake of first? Coin flip?

wait, the books aren't linear?

also, i get why they didn't do it in the show because it would have complicated it enormously, but from my understanding the belters are noticeably different from growing up in space, they are much skinnier and taller than a normal human, almost look alien in appearance

i think i'd read the books first. books are just probably the best sci fi i've ever read.

then it's fun(for the most part) to see them brought to life on screen.

no. i haven't read a lot of sci fi. and im not a fan of arthur c clarke, isaac asimov or sci fi from that era.

i did not like 1984, or brave new world, and i hated dune.

i liked ender series and all 3 andy weir's books. those are the only other sci fi books i can think of that i liked lol

but i like the expanse books a lot, relative to all genres. of course with 5000+ pages, you're going to get meh parts lol, but the good parts are elite.

the novella "the churn" is actually really great writing. it's weird how the writing in that novella is different from the rest of the series.

generally speaking sci fi writing isn't like the best prose lol... it's just fun stories and characters.

book clarissa and avisarila are waaaaaaaay better than tv clarissa and avisarila

Weird article. Apparently, this season is supposed to be the last season and is only six episodes long because of money issues, but people involved with the show are hinting they'd like to get a deal with another streaming service/network. How does Bezos allegedly single-handledly save the show and then find himself not willing to shell out a few more pennies to see it through properly to the end?
focusing on rocket engines 4 years behind schedule and space yo.

2nd episode was solid imo

In context it was solid before I saw the only 4 episodes to wrap everything up article.

in episode two i feel dumb

what i saw
Spoiler:
we jump to rasping voice space les pirate is doing something and hiding the ship waiting for the enemy to go directly in front of the weapon since it can only shoot directly in front of it (seems like a big leak)

she calls on very nervous person with japanese name but white face to hit a button at her signal, she hits the wrong button and the ship goes wildly out of control and exposes them from their hidden ambush spot

next thing we know there's a big explosion, we don't know who what or how and this apparently means they won but never showed how or why and then we learn they were in the midst of salvaging a ship which also blew up (or maybe was the only ship to blow up idk) and they are very short on torpedos

what i don't get
Spoiler:
everything, you can't just show a ship spiraling out of control in great peril then cut to an explosion and them saying "we won" like wtf? also, why was the ship they were salvaging blown up too, how were they hidden for ambush if in mid salvage? just none of it makes sense, i really got the feeling this was filmed beforehand with alex involved and then they decided to just cut out the parts he was in instead of reshooting and now it's more jumbled mess like how they killed him off

also, looked into the cas anvar thing, seemed all he did was be creepy and try to get girls to bang him, obviously out of line and all that but it's a difficult situation knowing that many of the accounts mention "repeated" ie so they continued to stay in touch and regularly do skype calls etc even though they thought he was a creep?

You leave the 5 foot eagle putt 2 feet short and you blame your best friends girl standing over there in these sexy little yoga pants. Then she goes yeah he probably should have held your purse because clearly you can't hit a putt hard enough to handle me

well done my best friend, well done

So basically nothing is happening. If the show runners showed me this I would cancel it also, if I was in charge of Prime content.

if i didn't know this was the last season i'd strongly considering quitting the show at this point - getting same feelings i got when game of thrones started to implode and i need to learn to quit a show before it ruins all the good memories

show used to be the tits, now it's just confusing plotlines and cut scenes of random vignettes over characters you don't care about and plotlines so rushed you don't know what's going on and just need to take it at faith that there must be a good reason why

remember being so confused at certain plot points in the wire when i first started watching that because it kept bouncing around between so many different characters and settings, but i heard it was amazing so gave it another chance and even rewatched some early episodes and that really helped, suddenly i knew that guy was bird and remembered that in the prior episode he did x to character y and that meant z consequences whereas before it was just a bunch of drug dealers so i didn't link bird and that event from prior episode

same thing happened with I, Claudius, another one of the all time greatest shows that heavily rewards rewatching some early episodes to help get into the swing of things

sadly, despite rewatching first two episodes 2x and regularly rewinding and reviewing specific scenes in episodes 3 and 4 whenever i felt something was off or didn't make sense, it still doesn't make sense

i'm left feeling stupid, but unlike with other complicated shows, you can't rewatch carefully and with more character info and the pieces fall together, instead on rewatching you realize it's not you who is dumb, it's the showrunners who assumed they could just speed things along and cut out incredibly relevant things and nobody would be bothered

i really hate myself for knowing i'm going to see this abortion through, kinda wish they never made these last two seasons though, show was so amazing previously it breaks my heart seeing what's become of it

infuriating, apparently the reason why nothing makes sense is because there are additional scenes only found hidden via watching on a tablet

When commenting on there only being six episodes, the showrunners said: "Would you rather have six very expensive very high energy non-stop awesome episodes of the show, or zero?". Well you forgot the "very high energy non-stop awesome" bit, you dickheads. Crazy how much time they're wasting when they only have six episodes to wrap up.

Do the writers think Filip is sympathetic? They're badly wrong if so. He's an utterly unlikeable prat and the sooner he's killed off in some appropriately hideous way, the better.

There were some good moments in the first season, but this show is mostly bargain basement sci-fi with a big budget. The writing, acting and frankly the underlying stories aren't good enough for a show with "prestige TV" ambitions that takes itself so seriously and lacks joy.

The problem is that they are closing the show by resolving a mid-series conflict. Marco Inaros is not the prime storyline. He is a story along the way.

How are they going to resolve protomolecule, opening of all these worlds through the gates, and even the mars vs earth vs the belt politics in two episodes? They aren't.

I love this show but the circumstances of having much more source material to go have made the final season somewhat blah. I hope i'm wrong and have an amazing final two episodes.

On a related note - does anyone who has read the books think you can pick up from where the TV series left off? I love reading sci-fi and want to keep going but I'm not sure that I can read 7 books where I already know what will happen.

There are enough side plots, character development, etc. in the books to hold your attention. Realize that there are some differences between characters in the books and the show. Your choice to read what's in spoilers.

Spoiler:
Drummer in the show is a composite character, since book Drummer doesn't get introduced until halfway through book 5.

Alex doesn't die at the end of book 5

Book Ashford is a completely different character than TV show Ashford.

OTOH, you can actually pick up with book 7 after you finish this season and feel comfortable where you are, but I'd suggest reading the Novellas for back story. If you don't want to read them all read The Churn (Amos' back story) and Strange Dogs (sets up books 7-9)
