Most are older in the books, chronologically, but IIRC the mean life expectancy at birth for Earthers is supposed to be over 100 years in their century.

Damn. Book 3 was definitely my least favorite of the first three. Didn't like the super preachy Anna plot line/character and Clarissa's plan was LOL.
clarissa's plan is idiotic and lol, but she is a crazed kid. crazed kids can come up with some pretty ridiculous plans

and yeah anna kinda sucks. i still liked the book a lot.

i didn't like the start of book 4, but then i liked it.

book 5 might be my favorite.

Book 6 spoiler:
Spoiler:
Book 3 was definitely my least favorite. Really didn't like the character Anna. Not a good sign that she is back in the Prologue of Book 6.

i don't understand the hate for book 3. anna isn't that bad. i hate the early scene with her and the abusive husband, but most of the scenes with her are good. and the rest of the book is great! lots of good battles and drama

No need to worry (not much of a spoiler below)

Spoiler:
She's only in the prologue and epilogue.

I don't hate Book Three; I quite enjoyed it. It was just easily my least favorite of the Expanse series. Still good reading.

Not sure I've ever seen a show where there is more disparity in acting talent, though. Avasarala (sp?), Draper, Amos, Naomi, and Anderson Dawes (my man Jared Harris, possibly the most underrated actor on earth) are all excellent while Holden, Alex, Prax, and almost every secondary actor (like the earther cop partner of Miller who just kind of disappears from the picture w/o much explanation in s1) leave some to be desired. On a related note, show needs more Dawes. Plz don't spoil but am hoping to see way more of him in s3.
Well, after having finished s3 just now, I'm sad we somehow saw even less of Dawes, in fact zero apart from his image on a screen once.

Add Drummer to my list of well acted characters.

I can't put my finger on it exactly but the actress who plays Anna tilts me more than maybe any actress ever. Have hated her in everything I've ever seen her in. Needless to say, could have done w/o that character in s3.

Also bump for s4 hype, coming out in a few weeks. For those of us non-book readers, keep the spoiler tags up, please.

I'm really interested to see how they handle book 4, as it takes place mostly on a new planet....wonder what fans of the show who haven't read the books will think about it.

I realize this didn't reveal much but spoilers, please.

Bruh, it was revealed in the trailers

Had a chance to watch episode 1 and it looks amazing. I'm really excited to dig into the new season. The first thing I noticed (in the trailer really) is how juiced the budget is. Sick looking glass panels everywhere, CGI, and new sounds affects abound.

So it’s basically Season 2 of The Wire?

Iirc they revealed the crew would be spending some time on a new planet through a few shots in the couple trailers I watched. That’s about it. Now I know to expect them there a good while which tells me a lot about the season. This is based on advanced book knowledge and is a spoiler. Certainly could have been more revealing but I and probably others would appreciate to not know anything based on the book even if it’s only vague general details about the direction of the season.

BOOK DISCUSSION BELOW

Spoiler:
2 episodes in. As I hoped there's book 5 and 6 setup included this season. Marco's name has come up, and a decent amount of Bobbie on Mars (including a scene from "Gods of Risk"). I expect they'll also introduce us to Duarte at some point.

through 4 episodes....enjoying it. I haven't read the novellas....

Spoiler:
is Bobbie on Mars from one of them, or is that all new?

Back when this thread first started I remember we talked about how much better this works as a binging show and I'm real glad to be proven correct, definitely better format.

Significantly higher budget and Avasarala using profanity helps a lot, too

After watching some more episodes, still excellent, but so many of the plotlines in the book get just weird fan service hints at while still mostly getting dropped, imo some of that stuff could've been deleted entirely.

The SFX are real good in this and it's almost jarring to see top flight production values instead of them obviously reusing sets over and over.

Spoiler:
"Gods of Risk" takes place on Mars with Bobbie's nephew caught up in illegal activity"

Also, remember that Bobbie isn't in Book 3, and is only in the prologue and epilogue to book 4 (on Mars). She shows back up in book 5 when Alex goes back to Mars to visit his ex. That's when we get wind of Duarte's plans.

Dom, you really need to read the Novella's. You can read each in less than an hour. "The Churn" is Amos' back story as a teenager in Baltimore, and the new one, "Auberon" follows his friend Erich, the mob kingpin he got off earth in Book 5 after the rocks fell. All the novellas contain important back story info for the books.

By far the worst season for me.
Half of this season was like santa barbara in space, the other half felt like show characters made a bet who can act dumber. Disappointed, really liked previous seasons. (Didn't read the books).

The Churn and Strange Dogs are the only novellas that you really need to read imo

I sort of agree, though they all give depth and detail to the overall story line.

The Churn is the best. After I read Auberon, I immediately re-read The Churn.

I haven't been impressed with Bobby's acting. The scene where she "passionately" defended her love for mars was super flat to me. Only 4 episodes in but also wish we were getting more of the bigger picture. It's supposed to be a gold rush, but we just see the petty bullshit going on on this one planet. Both the belters and the other guys act ******ed for no reason, so far
