Anyone else read Tiamat’s Wrath yet? It’s awesome. Loved who they chose for first person chapters. Really, a great book.

Yep, I thought it was one of the best of them. Really good.

Agree with the above. I don't have enough superlatives to express how much I enjoyed this one. The series as a whole, really, but this one might be the best.

Gotta feeling that Theresa is going to be a baddass in the next book.

Also RIP....someone.

Two very strong books in a row after the mid-series slump of 5 and 6, can't wait for the next one. It's kinda weird this was written as a 9 book series, seems like it should've been a trilogy, a standalone book, a 2 book series, and then another trilogy.

Books 5 and 6 are less necessary for understanding book 8 than the Strange Dogs novella.

I expect some setup for Book 5 this season and the rest of books 5 & 6 to be combined in s5 of the show.

Just finished a re-watch of the entire series.

I was fine with my first watching, but s3 was better on the re-watch since I didn't spend any mental energy on comparing it to the books.

Still feel they rushed the end of Book 3, but that was probably more due to not knowing (at the time of filming) if there would ever be a s4.

man, the books are soo good! and this show is so bad!

i barely watched any of the show though. i was just looking at imdb to see who they cast as clarissa mao, and it's like some 35 year old woman???? jfc man, it's a huge huge part of her character that she is an idiot kid who doesn't know what she is doing. *sigh*

Re: the bolded - what makes you say that? The final book is supposed to come out in early 2020.

Are you suggesting that GRRM's proteges are going do the same thing with The Expanse he's done with GoT?

They actually have a better track record for timeliness of book releases than GRRM himself.

I'm also pretty sure that Clarissa is older than Julie in the books, but I'd have to check.

oh! another book? great! i could have sworn that i read that the one that just came out was the last one. weird.

i'm pretty sure that clarissa is younger than julie. but i was wrong about the last book, so probably wrong about this too

Cool. I stand corrected. Maybe I was confused because Julie's behavior is classic middle child and Clarissa's response is classic oldest child.

On the books, it's always been planned to be 9 books, and how could possibly think Tiamat's Wrath could have been the last chapter with like 4 plot lines left completely unresolved and the epilogue being a huge cliffhanger???

Ok, so I know I rag you about not remembering character names , but really? reading comprehension:

IN SPOILERS for the rest of the discussion. Don't want this to turn into a GoT bleep show thread.

Spoiler:
So when Undead Amos says to Holden "You know those things that killed the protomolecule makers? They're going to kill all of us" (meaning all humans everywhere) and Holden replies something to the effect of "Yeah, I kind of figured that."

What? Did you think 2 minutes later the entire human race was wiped out?Like a literary version of Sopranos cut to black silence?

OK, I guess, but as old guy who graduated college with a major in English Lit., I would find that being the ending to such a richly woven complex literary tale incredibly frustrating.

Spoiler:
First and foremost, apart from the bigger plot, not going deeper into the (call it what you want) "Zombie/Undead/Ghola (homage to Dune)"that Amos has become and how he/it knows what he/it knows is like leaving money on the table.

Second, Elvi is obviously honing in on what the beings are that killed the Proto-Masters and has already focused on the fact that what killed them did not kill us. More money left on the table.

In the end, I can see the resolution being that humanity's inability to conquer our own inherent divisiveness leads to our ultimate downfall. That's fine, but the how is left open as are all major characters' arcs.

Ending the series at this point on a 'cut to black' without resolution (hint: There was resolution in The Sopranos) is an epic fail literaily.

/rant off

The guy they got to play Jules looks way too old to have a teenage kid, idk if anyone's age is explained in the books but if you did cast someone young as Clarissa viewers might think she's a granddaughter.

iirc clarissa is like 20 when we first are introduced to her. she is definitely not a fully developed person. i mean she is very immature.

bobby is very hard to cast. but come on, the casting of bobby is ridiculous

How is the casting of Bobbie ridiculous?

Ethnically, Frankie Adams is 100% correct (Samoan). She's an ex-athlete who is about 6' tall which is about as close as you're going to get since books Bobbie is about the size of a slightly slimmed down Lebron James.

ffs, it's impossible to accurately mimic Belter (and even Martian) physiology with normal human actors.

I thought they did a fantastic job casting Bobby. Can't be too many 6-foot Samoan actresses who are also good-looking out there.

While they're perfectly fine, I do think they could've done better casting Holden and Alex.

I have to go back and re-watch Magic City to see what I think of him in that.

I don't hate Cas Anvar as Alex. I think Wes Chatham continues to be great as Amos.

I find I like each season of the show better on a re-watch. First time through my brain is too busy comparing the show to the books.

Once I'm past that and view the show as a standalone, I find it to be excellent.

The problem are more the bigger issue Vegasville mentions as far as whatever the Grand Plan the authors have.

Books 1 and 2 had essentially the same plot with essentially the same villain.

Book 3 was just great, man, book 3 was good I wanna re-read it.

Book 4 wasn't a great book as a single book but it SEEMED like it was the start of something interesting, but the last 2 books, yikes. Lot of filler.

So however many books this series is going to end up being, it should've been a smaller number. Book 6, for example, reads like the first half of a REALLY good book, like book 4 it's setup for what's next, but now they've had 3 consecutive setup books without any punchline books.
I've just started reading book 4 and am two episodes away from finishing S2 of the series.

Damn. Book 3 was definitely my least favorite of the first three. Didn't like the super preachy Anna plot line/character and Clarissa's plan was LOL.
