That said, I really like the Drummer character, even though drummer doesn't show up in the books until 1/3 of the way through book 5.

At least they're getting the pieces in place for the rest of book 3.

Anna showing up out of nowhere to save the day was dumb as ****. I just yelled 'Oh, come on...' when that happened.

Spoiler based on previews for next episode:

Spoiler:
I figured they would be killing Drummer off based on this last episode and how the narrative seemed to be going toward Ashford/Dawes taking control of the ship, but it looks like Drummer will still be alive next episode. Makes for a more interesting conflict going forward.

Double episode finale next week!

Unfortunately, when you turn a book into a TV show, by necessity, you leave stuff out. IMO, the way they did this is their first pure swing and miss.

Seemed fine to me, why wouldn't she chase Melba? What else could she do? Maybe it'd have been better showing the slow motion chase sequence or something? Yeah sure it was a little bit TV-show-cheesey-trope.

I forget in the books, does the Pastor ever get on the Roci??? I don’t think so...

Yes she does

Spoiler:
She's injured and the painkillers and stimulants embolden her to go after Clarissa. Clarissa hurts Naomi pretty bad but Anna gets there in time to save her.

What bothers me in the episode is that it looks like Tilly is dead when Anna leaves her, but in the books, Tilly is instrumental in getting Mars to drop it's claim on the Roci.

At the end of book 3, Tilly gets her husband, a rich earther corporate magnate similar to JP Mao, to buy the Roci from the Martian gov't and gift it to Holden, as thanks for saving the human race. Remember, book 3 starts with the Roci being impounded on Ceres based on Mars' claim. It only gets released back to Holden because of the Documentary crew needing a way to get to the ring.

I reread books 2,3 & 4 last summer. I'm midway through a reread of Book 5 now.

Stuff like that is also a spoiler. Basically you are spoiling non-readers that Anna won't play a big role on Roci. Just use the spoiler tags when talking about books, it really isn't that hard.

Give me a friggin' break. At the end of the last episode, Anna shows up and saves Naomi's life. She already played a big role on the Roci, or did you doze off with 3 minutes left in the episode?

How the bleep does the fact that Dom didn't remember that from the books spoil anything??

I'd def prefer it if book stuff was in spoilers regardless of if a bookreader thinks it's spoiler worthy or not.

Splitting off a non-bookreader thread would make The Expanse ultimately the "Game of Thrones in Space"!

So, make a rule that says "you can't do x" without defining x????

Don't reference the book outside of spoilers. Not too hard imo.

I wonder if the story will now move towards more traditional scifi where humanity encounters alien civilizations? Not that I mind too much, the conflict between inners and outers have gotten to the point there isn't that much possible story left except for all-out war, which clearly isn't going to happen.

I probably like Ashford more than Drummer, he felt like a better captain who does what has to be done.

I'm guessing they'll end up encountering the beings that ended up killing the beings that created the protomolecule.

That seems unlikely, at least for the next few seasons. The big mysterious baddies works better as a background plot device that will eventually start unwinding. I think meeting something like humanoids on approx. same tech level as humanity is much more likely.

Don't know how I feel about no Pa/Bull/Sam. Makes sense I guess and it was somewhat obvious show Drummer was headed to replace one of them. Curious how Naomi fits in here, but it was a smart decision to put her on the Behemoth, regardless. Straitharn as Ashford is awesome, A+++ work.

Don't like the Clarissa casting--Clarissa is supposed to be this tiny ball of death. They really should have just recast the Julie actress, even if it would have confused TV plebs.

Curious if they finish all of book 3 this season. It would seem to make sense considering there are seven episodes left and I can't think of a good time to end the season until end of book 3.

Thinking ahead (and assuming Amazon does pick it up), how are they going to do book 4? Book 4 probably my least favorite, so I'm fine with it being condensed as much as possible.
was right about the book timing, but it did feel super rushed and not sure how I feel about all the character changes at the end

Spoiler:
So either Ashford (my bet) or Dawes will fill the Marco role, right? They aren't going to introduce ANOTHER rogue Belter-type.

Still curious what's going to happen with Book 4.

Just finished S3 and want to start on the books.

Am I ok starting on Book 4 (Cibola Burn) or should I backtrack?

That was an excellent season, though clearly rushing a bit to finish at a decent point should the renewal / saving not happen. I guess we know now where the name comes from!

Absolutely start at the beginning, IMO Book 3 is one of the best in the series (although really they are all awesome) and it'd be a shame to skip it.

edit now I want to rank them:

just off the top of my head

3
7
5

2
1
4

6

something like that?
