Well nice season finale . Funny how they handled Alex. Not quite sure what Holden's plan was or all that happened with Drummer's plan or what supposedly happened with the protomolecule but I'll watch again and read some outside articles. They don't like to spend much time explaining things but do they love to show long shots Naomi breathing.

Best guesses

Holden —based on spotting the hunting party late, they seemed to be in a no win situation. Couldn’t run based on fuel reserves? Decided to engage and cause chaos and but time for Alex and Bobbie.

Drummer— disable the other belter ships and fire on the Martian ships run by crews completely loyal to Marcos.

Protomolecule—the Martian fanatics got it plus one system to world build by restarting a planet wide machine system. Not sure what’s Marcos’ endgame here. He gets all the rest of the systems for his belters? Is he abandoning the remaining Sol belters? Is he got a line of something that will let him come back with overwhelming force?

Guess that’s why there is a season 6.


Surprised the Russian admiral guy didn’t make the JR officer work naked. Seems like a cult.

I kinda enjoy the lack of exposition. A few moments in the finale that were too cheesy cloying on the nose.

2. I love the figure it for yourself stuff. IMO many of the Naomi scenes went on too long but at least had the saving grace of being an intriguing puzzle for the viewer.

This season ended up being better than s4 but didn't quite live up to its potential, thought it had a decent shot of being the best season yet about halfway through but it ended up falling decently short. Yet again, I must say, not seeing any Anderson Dawes was a major letdown, mostly because I love Jared Harris and thought the character was interesting and a scene-stealer.

Everything involving Alex's death was very lol and it seemed obvious that the production team altered the episode significantly after the sexual misconduct allegations against the actor who plays him. It was actually pretty comical. This major character dies and gets a few throwaway lines tossed his way that seemed begrudgingly positive; seemed like they were giving the actor the middle finger a bit. I get they were handicapped a little in how much they could tinker with the episode, but it definitely seemed like they could have given the character a much warmer and more satisfying send-off.

Cross your fingers and hope they can get Harris. Dawes is an important part of book 6, which is what s6 should cover. The end of s5 is the end of book 5.

i love book amos! i hated wes chatham's show amos at first, but now i love him. i think he got a lot better.

Finally got around to watching season 5 and just finished up. Overall, I'd say it was very good. If I was to nitpick I'd say the Naomi stranded scenes went on way too long without any explanation - all they needed was for her to talk to herself about what she was doing and it would have been better.


And a big lol to the Alex is dead scenes. Obviously a little voice dubbing, some CGI blood, and a few quick reshoots. I can't ever remember a show with a main character dying having less thought given to it, except may Tiger from the Brady Bunch.

Tbh, the season was in the can long before Cas Anvar's legal issues surfaced and they had to decide to either recast the role or kill him off.

season four seemed really unnecessary, whole thing seemed pointless, h - just so dumb

so upset that a character i hated- just brutal

hated amos in the early seasons, didn't understand it, felt like he was just granted badass status without ever doing anything to earn it, he was also this mindless drone who just did whatever naomi told him - also it's been a while, but in the early seasons i don't recall him ever appearing ripped, more just big boned and yet people would refer to him as this hulking brute and it'd just be like wtf he's same size as everyone else just chubbier

he makes a lot of development towards being both a character worth following and as superficial as this sounds, he does improve his physique later to actually physically represent the character but then they send him on his trip back home and then we learn - still though, he's best character on the show now, can't wait for him to bang the secretary general on the regs, they've been foreshadowing that for ages and now she's freshly single so i want to see it

and now that journalist who is kind of weird looking like someone took a razor and cut off any angular part of her face but in like a sexy way like wtf

and why is everyone in this dark look, i kind of like it but the casting director clearly has a type as most women are pretty similar in facial structure and all given the same dark dark dark hair and makeup treatment

still love the show, just kind of at a loss on what it's been doing last few seasons, also really hate marco and the belter accent in general is just unbearable, was cool in small doses in early seasons and then went crazy

what i really wish they did was just make a long running belter detective show starring thomas jane, that would be the nuts - genuinely wish they just stuck with that instead of progressing the plotline

book amos makes a lot more sense as a character than tv amos. a ton of amos character development is just in a novella "the churn" which is probably my favorite of the books. highly recommend. it's really short too.

if you've been thinking of getting into the books, "the churn" is a great intro cuz it's so short, and so good. it really is just a side story though. iirc amos is the only main character in it

The Churn is one of the 6 novellas that serve as companion pieces to the 9 books in the series.

The point about character development is indicative of how difficult it is to turn a series of books into something fit for TV, especially one in which the key story line develops almost as subtext to the surface drama present in each book.

yeah the expanse is really difficult to translate to tv.

the belter accents. it's great in the books, and it makes sense. but in tv it comes across just sounding kinda stupid, and it doesn't work

the belter's physiques. it'd be so cool if all the belters were crazy tall and skinny. but yeah this doesn't happen lol

and character development, like kurn said, happens largely internally

I would have liked it if there was any chance she was going to die, otherwise the tenseness was lost.

Makes me think of Serenity after I thought, wow, they're really going to kill off the whole cast, and the end was super intense for me.

I just skipped every Naomi scene. Made season 5 much better.
