reading dexter's subreddit

Quote:
The Burgomaster of Goldstadt, Burgomaster Vogel was a close family friend of the Frankensteins. Like everyone else in Goldstadt, Vogel looked forward to to the wedding of Henry Frankenstein and Elizabeth. He was extremely disappointed when Baron Frankenstein informed him otherwise, and when the Frankenstein monster threw all of Goldstadt into a panic. Along with Henry and Ludwig, whose daughter Maria had been drowned by the monster, Vogel led an angry mob of torch-wielding villagers which chased the misunderstood monster into a windmill, which they proceeded to burn down.
Afterwards, Vogel saw to it that a wounded Henry was taken home and that the mob was broken up and sent home. Unlike most of the people in Goldstadt, Vogel did not believe that Henry Frankenstein's creation was a "monster," regarding him as merely a regular criminal to be apprehended and locked up. He quickly changed his tune when the town jail, with its bars and armed guards, proved unable to contain the monster.
interesting

If Deb's drunk at her house, Dexter's talking to Vogel/vetting the killer, and Jamie's going out with Quinn, where the **** is Harrison?

Is there another show where its most amazing/mind-blowing moment (Rita in the tub with Harrison on the floor) is also one of the worst decisions the writers could have made? I remember at the time of S4, the ending had people going nuts about how awesome it was. Dexter being left a single dad who has to care for a young son has easily been the biggest problem for the show since then.

Also, not sure if they're setting Vogel up to be the melon-baller. After the Travis Marshall debacle in S6, I don't think these writers are THAT dumb to do that again. My guess is they're just setting up the master/puppet parallel of Vogel/Dexter and Melon-baller/coerced minion doing the killing.

And as always Deb is awful, and I find it amazing that some critics think Carpenter is killing it. (Sepinwall/AVClub)

lol, if only the biggest problem of this show was dexter's kid.
also, I don't think rita dying is the greatest moment in the show, not even a top 3.

Out of curiosity, what are 3 better moments than the end of S4? There's clearly been nothing since S4 that's better, and I can't place anything major from the each of the first 3 seasons ahead of it.

You could argue the peripheral characters are awful and way worse than Harrison, but they've been awful since S1, and the show was fine then. I dunno, it doesn't seem like a coincidence that the show dropped in quality after S4 (rather drastically too), and really hasn't recovered since.

doakes finally finding out about dexter and fighting him is #1 for me.
dexter killing brian is a close #2.
dexter finding that the boy who witnessed his kill didn't draw him, but jesus, in the police sketch is #3. (I remember my heart racing thinking dexter was going to get arrested)

These are the first three moments that come to mind, i'm certain there are more.
though I have to say I'm biased because I hated rita and didn't care that much that she died.

Top scene for me was Deb telling Dexter she was in love with him. I'm still holding out hope that they run away together.

Wow, what a nothing episode. I am baffled as to why the writers think anyone gives a flying **** about Quinn...they've had so many storylines dealing with how much of a screw-up he is, but none of it ever leads to anything except him screwing up again. He's an entirely pointless character.

Deb being the one who killed El Sapo was so obvious, I couldn't tell whether they were trying to make it a surprise or not...either way, it wasn't. I don't dislike the idea of Vogel and Dexter being a parallel to the killer and his minions, but I feel like it's something of a distraction from the fact that the show really needs to be picking up momentum towards a satisfying finale, and it's just not even started doing that yet.

It's been said a million times, but the only time this show is really interesting is when there is some kind of threat that Dexter might get caught. The last time it was interesting is when LaGuerta found out, and before that when Deb caught him, and the next time it'll be interesting will be when Batista, Quinn, Masuka or Matthews (or the random black detective woman whose name I still don't think we've actually been told, but who keeps popping up because they need another low-level cop to be there and explain things - let's call her Detective Exposition) finds out about him. Until then, they're just treading water.

Yeah, same here. it woul've been a lot more surprising if they showed him getting killed and then zooming out to show deb.

BTW it's ok when James Remar is old in Dexter's flashbacks because that's the way he remembers him when he died. but those videotapes were really unnecessary. not that anyone takes this show seriously anymore, but just saying.

"Most of the time I don't have much fun. The rest of the time I don't have any fun at all."
Woody Allen

All the scenes featuring Quinn and the new "wrecked" Deb were tune-out boring.

I always thought Jennifer Carpenter was great, but as the new post-LaGuerta Deb, she is very bad in a badly written role.

Also, every time they said the name Sussman, I kept thinking about the dentist scene in "A serious man", damn that was a good scene.

Lol at the Mama Cass song stolen from LOST, pretty pathetic.

If we`re having any talk about top moments in the show`s history "Hello... [looks down at name badge] Dexter Morgan." is it for me. Lithgow was so lights out in that season. Rita dead in the tub is up there too.

That's mine by far as well. Rita's death wasn't that surprising to me, so it doesn't rate that high for me.

Jesus, all you people nitpicking every little inconsistency are miserable. It's a far fetched show, that's its nature, and it always has been. If it bothers you so much why do you not only watch the show but take the time to post about it online?

Because it's a great premise and we WANT the show to be great. It's proven it can be (seasons 1,2,4) so we need to vent our frustration when it isn't. And we keep watching because we're hoping it can somehow salvage some of that greatness before the end... or being plot-committed.
