After hating seasons 4-6, I really enjoyed S7. Maybe it's just because nothing else is on

I might be one of the only ones but I liked every season for most part. Some better than others. I don't know if my expectations were just low based on what other people were saying but I never thought wow this show sucks.

this sums up my dexter viewing experience:

S1- decent beginning, got my interest, a little slow but great last 3-4 episodes

S2- again a little slow but amazing last half, easily best portion of this series

S3- was pretty meh but not horrible, just kindof a letdown after s2

S4- really good in parts, thought some parts were close to on par with s2, but some plot holes start showing up, some new characters seem really pointless/redundant, good ending though, the show still seemed to have a direction at this point

s5- wanted to like, but really just a very cookiecutter easy to predict season

s6- see s5 but worse

s7- just awful, have basically ruined all the main characters in the show at this point by making them completely stereotypically one dimensional or just annoying as hell

s8- i dont see how this can be decent in any way, the plot has gone from easy to predict to just plain comical/lol imo...

I didn't start watching until S2 was finished, so I marathon'd those right before S3. Dug the first two, thought the third was a bit meh in the 2nd half. 4th is in my top 10 all time favorite seasons of a show ever. And that's even with some of the worst 2nd-tier main character stuff the show ever did. 5 was kind of a joke, 6 was a complete joke. I tuned out after Mos Def got killed for S6, but did watch the last 3 minutes of the finale. That got me about 50% on board for S7, but when Sarah got casted, I knew I was in no matter how bad it got. And it did get pretty freaking bad. Even after the great first couple of episodes. I was in for the duration of the series no matter what, and I'm just glad to finally get it over with. No matter how good this season might be, the overall series will never above a B- from me.

Hoping Sarah comes back.

Speaking of Sarah, wavegoodbye's viewing experiences of s1-s3 could fit pretty well with Chuck, too.

For me (back to Dexter) I marathoned the first 2 seasons (liked it), then lost interest in s3, watched that and s4 kind of half heartedly/on and off (s4 definitely better than s3 overall). s5 I haven't watched at all, s6 I've kinda of fast forwarded through enough to see it's lolbad. I watched s7 because of Sarah ldo and thought it had good moments but mostly was pretty bad. Will watch the first episode of s8 and go from there. If Sarah's back then I'm watching.

I doubt she'll be back in the beginning. It will be some mid-season cliffhanger'ish thing. Like this "Huge" surprise that everyone saw coming that ends up being goofy. But... It's Sarah!!

For the life of me, I couldn't remember who you guys were talking about when you were saying Sarah.

I think they're talking about Yvonne Strahovski (Hannah McKay) whose character's name on Chuck was Sarah Walker

wow. No one likes Dexter here. But you all keep watching it. Makes sense. I generally stop watching shows I don't like. Each to their own.

For what it is worth I think it is still a great show, not as great as the first 3 seasons, but still great.

I enjoy it quite a bit also. It's no where near Breaking Bad level for me but I also don't think it's as bad as some. Maybe I watch to much TV and it feels different (If I get to certain point) b/c I never quite shows.

I enjoy watching Dexter, but in the first several seasons I could really feel the suspense more than in any other show I've watched. The last several entertained me, but in no way created those same feelings that had me standing up to watch at times, or had me needing to see the next episode.

I enjoy it when it's on, but I no longer come close to looking forward to it.

You've never continued watching a show because you were plot commited even though you didn't like it anymore? Super standard thing to do. The truth is that after S4 there is a giant drop in quality. Some key people must have left because it is not only a case of entire seasons being filler (S5 and S6 were pure filler and a waste of time), but the writing became super sloppy itsself. In S1-4 Dexter comes across as this super smart serial killer, yet post S4 he's... an idiot. Pretty much every other character was handled terribly post S4 too.

People often develop a soft spot for their favorite tv shows and it is very understandable but I don't think there is any rational argument that can make S6 not seem like one of the worst television seasons of a show that used to be good ever. Luckily there isn't some sort of requirement that every opinion you hold has to be rational so people can like whatever the **** they want . But people are allowed to rant too .

Stopped watching early into S7 when La Guerta started sniffing around Dex. Might just watch S8 to see how they end it

funny a poker player saying he is plot committed.

I do get into my shows and I will give them sometime to sort their **** out if it heads downhill, but I wouldn't go for more than a season.

- It is possible to both love and hate a tv show at the same time (True Blood). This is different from a show that you once loved but went off a cliff but you stick around out of inertia (Heroes) or hoping for closure (The Killing) or you love but has a bad ending (Lost, Battlestar Galactica) or starts great but despite seriously dropping off you hope recovers and returns to glory (The Walking Dead). Also not the same as a show where you give it a few episode but it's just flat out terrible (Terra Nova) with few, if any redeeming qualities.

Complaining about people who vent their frustrations on any of these shows or telling them to stop watching really misses the point.

As I said each to their own.

On a side note I'm not really sure how Lost could have had a good ending. With all the balls up in the air if they had pulled off a good ending it would have been the greatest ending of all time.

I don't hate Dexter, per se. I just hate it relative to how much I used to like it when it was a really good show. Still better than a lot of the garbage that spewed out there week after week, but nowhere near as good as it was early.

Plot commitment is ultra standard, especially after 3 good seasons out of the first four.
