For what it is worth I think it is still a great show, not as great as the first 3 seasons, but still great.
You've never continued watching a show because you were plot commited even though you didn't like it anymore? Super standard thing to do. The truth is that after S4 there is a giant drop in quality. Some key people must have left because it is not only a case of entire seasons being filler (S5 and S6 were pure filler and a waste of time), but the writing became super sloppy itsself. In S1-4 Dexter comes across as this super smart serial killer, yet post S4 he's... an idiot. Pretty much every other character was handled terribly post S4 too.
People often develop a soft spot for their favorite tv shows and it is very understandable but I don't think there is any rational argument that can make S6 not seem like one of the worst television seasons of a show that used to be good ever. Luckily there isn't some sort of requirement that every opinion you hold has to be rational so people can like whatever the **** they want
