Dexter Season Eight: The ordeal will finally be over Dexter Season Eight: The ordeal will finally be over

04-18-2013 , 06:12 PM
The first preview of season eight was uploaded today:

It finally confirms what everyone already knew: that the ordeal will finally be over, about 6 seasons too late.

So rah rah Deb loves Dexter, rah rah she shoots someone for him but instead of doing something interesting like running off with Dexter to start a technically not incestuous relationship, they go back to what they've done for the past 5 seasons, pretend like basically nothing happened.

This **** wouldn't happen on Breaking Bad.

So, how do we think it will end? My random guess: Deb wrestles with killing Dexter but can't do it, Dexter kills himself so that Deb can live on, free of his dark passenger.

Or some bull**** like that.

Whatever happens, we're in it together, because wading around in **** ain't quite as bad when you got company.

It premieres June 30th, so at least we can watch it before Breaking Bad. To have it after would be like masturbating 5 minutes after having sex with Beyonce, pointless.

My guess is Dex somehow sacrifices himself to save Deb, and she's all like "Dexter **** **** **** nooo don't die I ****ing love you you piece of ****" but then he dies and we get to listen for the next 5 minutes his EMO nonsense.

Guess what? Successful shows continue to make new seasons. I for one have loved every season of Dex. Stoked for S8

What the fk are you talking about, dex had good and bad times, but it's still one of the best shows airing.

The original showrunner left after season 2 and, damn, it really shows. The first two seasons were well written, fast paced and, most importantly, it was clear that the show knew where it was going.

When losing the showrunner, they also lost their best writer, and the show lost direction. Then at the end of season four, it lost two more key members of staff (including the head writer), and the situation got even worse. What we were left with was a show that had cheesy dialogue, incongruous character actions and just simply didn't know why we loved it so much early on.

The mark of a great serial show like this is the ability to bring everything crashing down (like at the end of season two) and then continue just as well or even better than before. They managed that the first two seasons, and that season two finale was awesome but, since then, they've just been floundering. They keep finding ways to 'reset' the show, and act like basically nothing has happened, a big no no for a serial drama that relies on the threat of consequences to keep it interesting. If Dexter's not in danger then what's the point? It just becomes a (boring) procedural about who Dexter decides to kill this week, and that's just not why we started to love this show in the first place.

Sure, the show has had its moments since then (most notably the last five minutes of season six and the first episode of season seven), but crucially, it has failed to build on them and deliver on them.

E: I'll add that since they finally know where they're going this season has a chance to actually be good, but I still think they'll probably find a way to F it up.

I know right?!

Hannibal is currently the best serial killer show airing new episodes.

I'm not sure what chilltown was watching or my sarcasm detector is broken but that trailer looks awful. Will watch and be happy when it's over.

Roo: did that showrunner come back, or are you just musing in general about how and why it sucks now?

in theory this season has the chance to be decent, given that it's ending. there are real stakes now, and they can do anything they want here. still kinda really feel like they'll manage to [censored] it up though.

Nah he didn't come back. It would seem that the three main producers/writers/showrunners who left all did so because they'd taken the show as far as they wanted to and moved on. All of them got out before the abominable last two seasons and it's not hard to show the correlation (and highly, highly probably causation) between each of their departures and the decline of the show.

I feel the same way, the current showrunner has been in charge since the start of season six. He doesn't have a decent season of Dexter under his belt. Therefore, likely ****up.

I liked the jimmy smitts stuff and trinity was awesome. It's been aids for the most part for a while though. It's in walking dead territory now; great concept, great start and then they just fall apart and cater to the mass audience. Ill still be watching every ep though

If you watch the first series now you can see it has aged terribly. The characters were always face up caricatures and the plots were ridiculous. At the time i thought it was great, now i just don't know what i was seeing. Locked into watching the last season, my expectations are so low there is a small chance i'm not disappointed.

A new promo:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/liv...nds-dex-518713

It's not bad. It has no actual footage from the show though, so that would explain it.

I don't care one iota about his 'legacy'. I hope that's not actually a theme they explore this season. That would suck.

So they will then...

I still think they did well with the first handful of episodes last season, and I think they can pull off at least an almost crazy season that will be fun to watch. I wouldn't say I have faith that they will, but I think that they can.

I'm not too sure how much I actually enjoyed last season as a whole, being that Sarah is the only reason I even watched to begin with.

Is this a regular 13 ep order? Or are they giving some mercy by having it be like 8 or 10?
